  1. hi I was refering to the link posted / quoted below. If 0.01% of all children who get Covid in the Usa die from it.. that means one in every ten thousand children who get infected will die? Not 1 in one million? I am guessing that not all children in the Usa have been infected by the virus. So out of those who have tested positive.. every one in ten thousand of them have died? Thanks.
  2. Yes.. um.. 1% is one in a hundred.. So 0.1% would be one in a thousand.. and 0.01% would be one in ten thousand? My maths is a little rusty though.. But that is my understanding? Thanks.
  3. hi.. Just a small note. If I am not mistaken.. 0.01% is.. 1 in ten thousand.. not 1 in 1 million? (Please correct me if I am mistaken. Not trying to argue. But just trying to remember math I learned ) Thanks.
  4. Covid is horrible It can affect so much in the body. In India some survivors of Covid are battling black fungus infection (mucormycosis). Sometimes doctors even have to remove an eye.. to save the life of a patient.. Covid is such a horrible horrible disease But I am soooo glad you are alive Coop. You have a great sense of humour. And often put smiles on faces. Thank you (But I still eat chicken though.... sorry! )
  5. I came across this news article.. https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/29/who-is-most-at-risk-from-the-delta-variant.html A few thoughts : From data from this article.. it appears that out of the 53,822 figure (of unvaccinated people who contracted the delta variant) quoted by the american senator's post / tweet.. possibly around 52,846 might have been in the under-50 age group and perhaps only around 976 people were in the over-50 age group? -------------------- For Covid in general.. the fatality rate is often different for different age groups. For younger age groups.. the death rate is usually way less than for older age groups where it can be quite high.. Most of the deaths that has happened from the delta variant in england.. appears to be in older people.. (ie above 50).. (as younger people usually have a much smaller death rate from Covid.. thus less young people die from it). If I am not mistaken.. in the UK many older people have already been vaccinated.. So the number of older people contracting this virus seems quite small compared to younger people who have not been vaccinated? And therefore the overall number of deaths is small (since in england many of the high risk folk are already protected with vaccinations? ). *edited* Just some thoughts. Thanks.
  6. Thanks to both of you for the info There are several countries.. (including my own).. which are trying to develop their/our own vaccines.. But that would take time.. and perhaps no gurantee of success yet..? So if there is a new vaccine or vaccines which are hopefully both safe and effective.. that might be helpful to some countries around the world that might be struggling with covid right now..
  7. @WorthyBot I am a bit puzzled about the OP. If these masks were used masks (as it appears to be).. and not say sterilized masks that had been tested straight from its packaging.... If these were masks that had been used by human beings for several hours in a non-sterile environment.. then to me I think it might be a bit surprising if these masks had absolutely no bacteria or any other microbe at all on them? Microbes are all around us. They are in the air. They are on surfaces etc. They are often even on human skin. (And in human bodies). So for example if people were to say walk around in a normal non-sterile environment wearing a mask perhaps even for several hours... As they talk etc.. perhaps a bit of their own saliva might get on their mask.... As they walk around.. fungal spores in the air might adhere to the mask.... As they touch surfaces with their hands such as door handles etc and then perhaps later adjust their mask.. bacteria might get transfered onto the mask.... If they remove the mask for example to eat or drink.. and place the mask on a non sterile surface.. microorganisms on that surface might get on the mask too.... So um.. I am sorry WorthyBot.. but I don't understand this OP? What is the issue? It is puzzling? Thanks.
  8. Just a small note. There are non-mRNA vaccines. For example there are vaccines that are more traditional type vaccines such as sinoVac. However some of those vaccines might have a lower efficacy rate compared to the Pfizer vaccine etc. https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/evidence-from-overseas-shows-sinovac-vaccine-carries-risk-of-infection-despite-jabs *note singapore allows sinoVac vaccine through private clinics etc https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/covid-19-sinovac-vaccine-jab-clinics-overwhelming-response-15033550 The point I was trying to make is that there are several different types of Covid vaccines available around the world. Some vaccines might have certain types of issues in small number of cases (such as possibly blood clots in some people). Others might have lower efficacy rate etc. However right now vaccines in general .. are one of the more effective tools that countries have currently.. to try to fight against Covid. Perhaps in the future there might be other vaccines for Covid that are even more safer and/or more effective..? .. But right now countries are trying to protect their populations with vaccines that are available. My own country is in the midst of a wave /surge. Some of the ICU's are / were at over 100 percent capacity. The authorities here are trying to ramp up vaccinations to protect lives etc. But it is a race against time.. (or rather a race against the virus)..
  9. *sighs* My country is not simply looking for a handout. We are willing to buy vaccines ( hopefully at a normal price for vaccines.. not inflated profit gouging : ).. But a problem is vaccines simply aren't available in sufficient quantities right now for everyone in the world.. And the need for vaccines etc in countries like mine.. which is in the middle of a surge.. is right now .. Not simply many months from now. We are running out of ICU beds ..
  10. Sorry I think perhaps my post was not very clear. I think masks were generally not mandatory in public before Covid ? (Well ..um.. actually I am not sure whether or not it was mandatory in certain specific places such as schools.. during the SARS outbreak years ago? Or not? Sorry not sure about that. .... But as far as I know I *think* it was not generally mandatory for most public places in asian countries.. until Covid last year /this year.... ) The news links I posted in my earlier post.. were refering to Covid times.. Wow.. why would you think that? Wanting to keep oneself safe /healthy.... Or wanting others to be safe /healthy.. that is not a bad thing.. It is a good thing.. I can't speak for entire continents.. but as someone who lives where I live.. one thing which was (and still is) really hard for me to try to understand.. is why so many folk in some countries such as america.. including fellow Christians.. would be so against something simple like wearing masks? To me that is something that is really really hard to try to wrap my head around.. because it is so soooooo different in my part of the world.. Over here in this part of the world..wearing masks is usually not a big deal at all.. (as long as there is enough supply and the price is not a burden etc).. So sometimes some of the comments etc about wearing masks.. even from Christians on sites such as worthy.. that is something which is really really hard to understand..? It is just sooooo different than how most Christians in this part of the world would view wearing masks.... Just some thoughts. Thanks.
  11. Just a small note. In my country (which I am guessing possibly has a younger population demographic than the Usa?).. from data between march last year and april this year.. possibly almost a third of all those who died as a result Covid in my country were between 50-64 years old.. In addition there were also younger people especially those in their 30's and 40's who also died.. but a lesser number than the 50-64 year group. Also while many of those who died may have had underlying health conditions such as asthma or diabetes or high blood pressure etc.. that does not automatically mean they were 'dying'.. (well unless you are refering to all humans dying? ) Many conditions such as asthma etc can often be controlled with medication.. and many people can live long lives even with those very common conditions.. Covid is killing them now ..as well as some people (smaller number).. who possibly don't even have those underlying conditions.. Sorry just wanted to mention this. Thanks.
  12. um.. actually many countries in asia either had ..or currently have.. mandatory mask regulations.. A couple of examples of countries. Thailand https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/2106951/face-mask-rules-curfews-expanded Singapore https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/covid-19-singapore-masks-going-out-law-12643120 Please note that these are just two examples. There are other countries in asia which had or have mask rules too.. Just a small fyi that's all. Thanks. *ps Please note second link article (about singapore) is originally from last year.. but mask wearing (except for very young children etc) is still going on.. Thanks.
  13. Agreed. It is a terrible virus. It has killed people in countries around the world.. It is believed to be far far more deadly that most normal flu viruses.. And at least in countries such as mine.. it is also killing people who are relatively healthy and the non-elderly too. I wish that my Christian brethren who think the virus is no big deal.. would look at what has/is happening to countries such as India etc. Or perhaps look at countries such as mine which is currently battling a surge /wave... ICU's have started to become filled up.. and we are hoping that they do not become overwhelmed.. or that our country ends up facing what India is facing.. Those of you who live in countries where not only do you have enough relatively safe vaccines for everyone.. but you also have a choice which vaccine to take if you do not want the mRNA ones.. (and I understand concern about taking new type of vaccine..I have concern too)..... But I also wonder.. do you realise how fortunate yall are?.. In countries such as mine our countries are desperate to get more vaccines.. There just isn't enough vaccines in the world right now.. People are waiting hoping for vaccines.. (especially effective safe vaccines?).. or sometimes perhaps they might be having to choose whether to take less effective vaccines or one that might be more risky etc.. You have vaccines. Your country has vaccines. You have a choice.. If folk in your country/s truly don't want any vaccines.. then perhaps your country could consider sending them over to the countries that are desperately searching for them? Just some personal thoughts. Please forgive me if I spoke too bluntly.. Thank you very much for listening /reading.
  14. hi.. Just a small note. No offence intended. But just wanted to mention that that newspaper is possibly linked to the Falun Gong.. Just wanted to let you know. Thanks.
  15. Question : Is worthyChristianforums promoting a shiite (shia) channel/site ? If so.. may I ask why? wondering. ( no offence intended @Worthy Bot ) Thanks.
  16. I am very sorry. I was off topic again.
  17. hi.. just a small note. Some thoughts. 1. The number of daily cases vary from day to day. So the number of countries that have more than 1000 cases per day can also vary over time. Sometimes they might be more.. sometimes they might be less.. as countries battle second or third waves etc. In addition I am wondering if perhaps the figure in some countries might be in question because some countries might be doing little testing.. or be currently having war or conflict etc.. so the exact number of cases perhaps might be difficult to know? Just wondering. 2. Also I think that just the raw number of cases.. sometimes might not fully portray the situation in a particular country compared to others.. For example.. if a country has a population of say 1 billion people.. then perhaps 1000 cases might seem like a relatively small percentage of the population. But if a country has a population of just 1 million i.e 1,000,000 people.. then 1000 cases a day every day.. is a much bigger percentage of the population. Also.. different countries might have different amount of healthcare facilities to cope with a surge of cases.. For example..if a country has only limited number of ICU beds.. then even if the number of beds needed increased by several hundred.. that might still overwhelm the system there.. possibly leaving people unable to get the treatment they need to survive.. And this could impact not just covid patients.. but also others needing treatment for other conditions or injuries.. but who might not be able to access ICU beds either.. So I think with regards to Covid data..sometimes comparing countries can be a bit difficult perhaps.. Sorry this is a rather long post. But just wanted to share some thoughts. Thanks.
  18. This is a news article about a doctor at a Catholic hospital in India. Please note that I am not trying to promote Catholicism.. But the article gives a glimpse of situation in parts of India? https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/world/covid-19-pandemic-india-doctor-hospitals-patients-14749200 Thanks.
  19. With respect brother.. I think you might be mistaken.. The article is talking about some of the misinformation online regarding the vaccine trials. One example given of misinformation.. is a post /tweet that had apparently suggested that animal trials were not conducted because of possible dangerous side effects. This is an example given of misinformation.. The article explains that animal trial were actually conducted.. but just that they were conducted simultaneously with human trials (Phase 1 trials).. rather than before human trials (which would normally be the case instead).... And that the reason this had been done was because of the urgent need for a vaccine.. Again brother.. with respect.. I disagree.. The purpose of the study mentioned in the journal article.. was not to make a vaccine for animals.... The purpose of the study was basically to study the reaction / effect of the vaccine on animals.. specifically primates.. because it might potentially affect humans the same way etc.. The vaccine was being tested on the primates.. At least that is my understanding? Thanks.
  20. *Bump* Shortage of oxygen still happening. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-56940595 Heartbreaking :(
  21. Just a small note that's all. I came across this article.. https://apnews.com/article/fact-checking-afs:Content:9792931264 Also a journal article from last year.. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7449230/ (mRNA-1273 is moderna vaccine I think?) Thanks.
  22. The situation in India perhaps reminds me a bit of what possibly happened in Italy earlier on in the pandemic last year.. when their hospitals there got overwhelmed.. except the situation in India might possibly be even / much worse perhaps? I think what happened in Italy last year served as a warning call to other countries in europe and elsewhere.. and this current situation in India might also be a warning call to countries around the world.. including my own.. Countries cannot afford to be complacent about this virus.. or assume too quickly that it has been overcome..
  23. *bump* Just a small note. A news article about situation in part/s of India. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asia/sos-messages-panic-covid-19-breaks-india-health-system-14699840 Thanks.
  24. I am very sorry for my part in taking this thread off topic (hides face?). My apologies. @Debp My answer which I had already posted somewhat in an earlier post.. is that I have not got vaccinated (yet). There is a shortage of vaccines around the world. So my country has only just started to vaccinate those in highest risk groups.. (Frontliners etc were vaccinated during the several weeks prior ). I am not eligible yet at the moment. Thanks.
