  1. Some of my husbands family is Weslyan-and I'll warn you-they are VERY works based, in fact, I doubt that they are even saved. They MUST wear their hair a certian way, only wear dresses or skirts and have sleeves below the elbow. The men cannot wear facial hair and also must wear long sleeves. I'm not sure if all Weslyans are like them-but I certianly cannot reccomend them to anyone who is seeking a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
  2. i would talk to all the unbelivers you no and love about getting saved Soon Isaiah 17:! will be fulfilled-and Damascus will be destroyed. What better time for the antichrist to show up and bring a 7 year peace treaty with Isreal. Look up folks, our redemption draweth nigh.
  3. Blood bought, Bible believing, Born Again, Tongue talking, Walking with Jesus Child of the Living God!
  4. You can speak in tongues when Jesus baptises you in the Holy Spirit. It is for real and it is for all of us. "For this promise is to you, your children, and to all who are afar off=even as many as the Lord our God shall call" Peter I speak in tongues also, both as prayer and as a gift of the Spirit. (two different things) Don't worry hmh, if some call you heretic, they'll have to contend that Peter, and Paul were also.
  5. I'm Pentecostal-is that what your asking?
  6. My daughter went to SouthEastern University of the Assemblies of God in Lakeland FL. It is very Biblically based-with most of the kids having very strong Christian faith. She absolutly loved it. The staff and teachers were wonderful, and there were many opportunities to share Christs love with others. The A of G also has colleges in PA-MO-and Texas. http://www.secollege.edu/ Rare among university presidents, perhaps, I am of the opinion that not everyone needs to go to college. Furthermore, among them that do go, not all should attend a Christian college. And finally, not every student who attends a Christian college is a good match with Southeastern. How can you work through those layered questions to find out if Southeastern is the right place for you to be right now? Take this Yes/No quiz: Will a college degree be helpful or necessary in my chosen career? I enjoyed and felt profited by educational experiences in the past? Is it a goal of mine to be an "educated" person in the broadest sense of that rather than to be "trained" for a skill? Do I enjoy being in a community of enriching faith? Do I want to be mentored and challenged at an intimate university? If you answered yes to four or more of these questions, you are probably an ideal match for Southeastern. Southeastern is not a huge research university, but a caring Christian community where we are attempting to integrate faith and higher learning. We believe too much of modern education is a slice-and-dice experience that makes students in one major resent taking courses in others. A "university" is not supposed to be a chop shop collection of trade schools on one campus. That's a "poly-versity." At Southeastern we are asking hard questions about God and culture. Insightful-thinking believers do not want a life or an education that's a disjointed jigsaw puzzle. At Southeastern we are trying to "put it together" for students who are ready to "get it together." Want to know how science, history, theology and ethics connect with "real life?" Eager to think
  7. I believe Jimmy should have stepped down and done what the AoG asked him too-pride is his problem not the AoG's-they did not try to sweep his sin under the rug-but basically asked him to show fruit of repentance. I'm glad to say they took his credentials away-I would have been ashamed had they done anything else under the circumstances.
  8. I too believe that drinking is a sin-not going into the whys here-but it's pretty obvious that the Lord has convicted you of the same thing. Personally, I would have probably left. You didn't have to make a scene or get jumping ugly about it-but you need to take a stand in front of your kids. You do not have to compomise your morals because of what your family-or even other "Christians" say is ok.
  9. to prophesy means to speak forth from the heart of God. Sooooo-prophesy is speaking. However, not all speaking is prophesy.
  10. Minto fired over gibes By Tony LaRussa TRIBUNE-REVIEW Thursday, April 14, 2005 Pittsburgh talk-radio host Marty Minto says he spent most of his time on the air last week doing what he always does -- discussing current events from the perspective of an evangelical Christian. Following a week's worth of conversation on his WORD-101.5 FM show that questioned whether Pope John Paul II's Roman Catholic beliefs could be an impediment to entering heaven, station management pulled the plug. Minto was fired Friday, ending a three-year stint as host of the radio station's only locally produced show, which aired from 3 to 6 p.m. weekdays. "I was called into the office after my show Friday and told that I was being let go because I was alienating the listeners," said Minto, 39, of New Castle, Lawrence County, who previously did talk-radio shows in Albany, N.Y., Phoenix and Denver. Minto also is senior pastor of the 100-member Turning Point Community Church in New Castle. "As far as I'm concerned, I was doing what I've always done on the radio -- look at events around the world from a biblical perspective," said Minto. "I've always been willing to talk about controversial subjects." Chuck Gratner, general manager of WORD-FM for the past 14 years, said the station does not dispute Minto's account of events. "We ended our relationship" with him because of differences in how he conducted his show, Gratner said. "WORD-FM needs to function in this city in support of the entire church -- that means everybody -- and not focus on denominational issues," he said. Minto's time slot is being filled on an interim basis by Chris Buda, who did the show before Minto was hired. "We are currently examining what would be the best use for that time slot," Gratner said. "No decisions have been made." During the week in which the news was dominated by the death and funeral of the pope, Minto discussed with callers John Paul II's deep devotion to Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Catholic beliefs, such as purgatory. "I made it clear that the discussion was not an attack on the character of the pope but, rather, a look at the teachings -- not only of John Paul, but the Catholic Church in general," Minto said. Minto said he responded to a question about whether the pope would go to heaven with the belief held by many evangelical Christians that a person must be "a born-again believer." "I said the question of whether a person is born again is something personal, something between an individual and the Creator," Minto said. "I believe it was a legitimate topic to discuss." The Rev. Ron Lengwin, spokesman for the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, said the diocese did not complain to WORD-FM regarding Minto's show. He said station management contacted the diocese to say that Minto had been fired. WORD-FM and its sister station WPIT-730 AM are owned by Camarillo, Calif.-based Salem Communications, which owns 95 Christian-oriented stations in the United States.
  11. I voted for Bush-while I don't agree with him on every detail-ie the borders for example-I sure would feel I was in sin had I voted for the pro death camp of Kerry. Sometimes we just have to go with the least offensive person to our faith. In this election it happened to be Bush.
  12. Why not? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It is obvious that if a woman is praying or prophesying in the church-then she is speaking. Now, in order to do that she must have her head covered. If she is speaking then according to some of you-she is being out of order. This doesn't make sense! Paul said not to speak out from under the cover-not not to speak at all.
  13. The same man who told us women should be silent in the church-also said that women shouldn't pray or prophesy with their head uncovered. Now-both of those statements cannot be taken literally in every situation in the church. I like Joyce Meyer and make it a point to listen to her if I see her on TV. I believe she is under the autority of the Lord and of her husband.
  14. We're having Lasagne! Sounds a little strange-but my DH gets very ill if he has too much salt-so ham is out and that's what he asked for. Also having pecan pie! Yum.
  15. I know a person who was mightly used by God-walked in total surrender to Him, yet ended up on the ash heap. I gotta admit I do not understand how this could happen but it does. Why?
  16. It also helps to know you're not alone. Many others are going through grief also. Answers aren't as easy to come by as questions-but God is able to catch the tears.
  17. I only listen to Christian music. Just have no use for anything else. At best, to me anyway, secular stuff seems a waste of time. What to listen to-which group I mean would depend upon your musical taste. I like Newsboys the best-and also like to listen to most modern worship music. I like everything from southern gospel-like Lynda Randle-to more rock type stuff like Bleach. I would go and burn a few worship cds-with different groups on them-or buy a few if you'ld rather. Anyway, buy a few "various artists" worship cds and see what floats your boat. Wouldn't hurt to find a good Christian radio station too-or at least turn on the CCM chanel on your satelite dish. Hope you find what you're looking for.
  18. Strange weather isn't the only rapture soon sign: Todd Taylor (12 Jan 2005) "CLOSER to the Rapture" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CLOSER to the Rapture? by Michael G. Mickey (1-9-05) As of 1-8-05, Mahmoud Abbas is the president elect of the Palestinian Authority, having won the election to fill the vacant seat formerly held by the late Yasser Arafat. Much as I anticipated, the European Union's top diplomat, Dr. Javier Solana, was quick to meet with him, promising the European Union is willing to give Abbas help in every respect -- politically, economically, with security or whatever he needs, as documented in an EUBusiness.com article. What does Abbas' election, coupled with Solana's rapid movement on behalf of the European Union indicate? It quite possibly indicates we're closer to the Rapture of the Church than we've ever been before, not only chronologically, but conditionally! Bible prophecy tells us, in no uncertain terms, what we're currently witnessing taking place in the Middle East could well be leading us toward the Rapture of the Church, the advent of the Antichrist, and the onset of the Tribulation Period! Make no mistake about it! Javier Solana, in his role as the EU's top diplomat, is setting the stage, quite possibly, for Daniel 9:26-27 to be fulfilled: Daniel 9:26-27: And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. We're told a prince (or leader) of Roman descent (as it was the Romans who destroyed the city and sanctuary in AD 70) will confirm a covenant of peace seven years in duration (which will lead to and coincide with the seven-year Tribulation Period) between Israel and her enemies. Halfway through the Tribulation Period, the Roman prince (the Antichrist) will enter a rebuilt Holy Temple of the Jewish people, blasphemously declare himself to be God, and break the peace covenant he amazed the world by confirming only 3.5 years earlier. You'd have to be blind! While I would never be so bold as to suggest I know with certainty the return of Jesus Christ to Rapture His Church is weeks or months away from taking place, I can't help but look at what is transpiring at this hour in utter astonishment! Anyone who has even slightly examined Bible prophecy would have to be wearing spiritual blinders to look at what's taking place in the world around us and suggest we're not seeing progress made toward the return of Jesus Christ taking place! If we're not witnessing prophetic posturing leading us toward the fulfillment of the remainder of the Bible's unfulfilled prophecies, this is a MAJOR wake-up call for mankind, as all the pieces of the end times puzzle certainly seem to be on the table. The revived Roman empire --- the final empire that will rule the world prior to the physical, visible, bodily return of Jesus Christ, as seen in Daniel 2:44 --- is here in the form of the European Union. And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. The world is obsessed with Jerusalem and peace, precisely as the prophet Zechariah recorded would be the case in the end times: Zechariah 12:2-3: Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it. Hope is way, way up peace is on its way to the Middle East! As long as Yasser Arafat lived, most everyone knew there was little hope of peace coming to the Middle East. Since Yasser Arafat's death, Mahmoud Abbas has been viewed by the majority of the world's leaders as the Palestinian most likely to work with the international community to bring peace to the Middle East. Having won the Palestinian Authority's presidency, Abbas will soon be given an opportunity to show the world whether or not he will partner with the Quartet for peace. One day after Abbas' victory, Javier Solana's message to Abbas, on behalf of the EU, is this, as quoted in the EUBusiness.com article linked above: "We have a new opportunity now, an avenue of optimism, an avenue to work together to make the dream of so many people into a reality. The dream can be true and can be realised. Whatever we can do for that, we will do." What the European Union and Solana fails to realize is "the dream" Solana speaks of is just that ---- a dream! Bible prophecy tells us there isn't going to be a lasting peace in the Middle East until the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, returns to establish it! When the Roman prince of Bible prophecy, whomever he may be revealed to be, arrives on scene to confirm his seven-year covenant of peace --- and it could be very soon --- what will follow will not be peace, but a flood of sudden destruction which will lead unrepentant mankind down a road the Quartet's roadmap to peace doesn't have marked --- the road to Armageddon! 1st Thessalonians 5:3: For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. What lies ahead Anything could happen in the weeks and months ahead, from progress coming in the Middle East peace process to everything breaking down as it has so many times in the past. We just don't know! The one thing those of us watching for the return of Jesus Christ need to keep in mind, however, is a breakthrough is eventually going to come in the effort to bring peace to the Middle East! Thus sayeth the Lord! Because we see evidence the breakthrough Bible prophecy tells us will someday come in the quest for Middle East peace could be rapidly approaching, we need to be spiritually ready to meet the Lord in the air all the time because Jesus Christ could come for those us awaiting His return any time! If the rider of the white horse of Revelation 6 (the Antichrist) doesn't have one foot in the stirrup right now, there's little doubt in my mind he's presently thinking of taking up horseback riding! Keep looking up, saints! We're getting CLOSER to meeting Jesus Christ in the air by the second!
  19. From carm: According to Jehovah's Witness' theology, God is a single person, not a Trinity, who does not know all things and is not everywhere. He first created Michael the Archangel through whom He created all "other things," including the universe, the earth, Adam and Eve, etc. This creative work took God 42,000 years. At one point, The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society taught that God ruled the universe from somewhere in the Pleiades star system. They have since modified this to say that the "Pleiades can no longer be considered the center of the universe and it would be unwise for us to try to fix God's throne as being at a particular spot in the universe."1 Such changes and even contradictions in teaching are frequent in the Watchtower organization and when a doctrine changes, they tell their followers that the light of truth is getting brighter. After Adam sinned, the paradise which God had created for them, was ruined. So, God instituted a system of redemption which was revealed in the Bible and would ultimately lead to the crucifixion of Jesus the messiah. But, in the meantime, God needed to have a visible, theocratic organization on earth to accurately represent Him. Throughout history, this true organization had a remnant of faithful Jehovah's Witnesses (Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, etc.) but it wasn't until the late 1800's that Charles Taze Russell formerly began what is now known as the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society which is run out of Brooklyn, New York. This organization claims to be the only true channel of God's truth on earth today and that it alone can properly interpret God's word since it is the angel directed, prophet of God on earth. When it came time for the savior to be born, Michael the Archangel became a human, in the form of Jesus. Jesus grew and kept all the laws of God and never sinned. Finally, when Jesus died, it was not on a cross, but on a torture stake, where he bore the sins of mankind -- but this did not include Adam's sins. Jesus rose from the dead as a spirit, not physically (his body was dissolved and taken by God) and during his visitations to people on earth, he manifested a temporary physical body for them to see and touch. Thus began the true Christian church of Jehovah's followers. Throughout history there have been faithful Jehovah's witnesses who have managed to keep The Truth in spite of the "demonic" doctrine of Trinitarianism that has permeated the Christian church in "Christendom." Christendom is filled with pastors who are antichrists, in churches run by Satan, and who support the earthly governments which are all of the devil. In other words, all of Christianity is false and only the Jehovah's Witness "theocratic" organization lead by several men in Brooklyn, New York, is true. In the late 1800's, a young man of 18 years, by the name of Charles Taze Russell, organized a Bible class in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1879 he sought to popularize his ideas on doctrine so he co-published The Herald of the Morning magazine with its founder, N. H. Barbour and by 1884 Russell controlled the publication and renamed it The Watchtower Announcing Jehovah's Kingdom, and founded Zion's Watch Tower Tract Society (now known as the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society). Russell served as the teacher and guide for the organization which taught that Jesus returned invisibly in 1914 and is now reigning in heaven. When Jesus finally returns physical to earth, which will happen at the time of the Battle of Armageddon, He will set up his earthly 1000 year kingdom. During this 1000 year period, people will be resurrected and have a second chance to receive eternal salvation by following the principles of Jehovah's Organization on earth known as the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. After the millennium, those who reject God and His organization will be annihilated; that is, they will cease to exist. The rest of the Jehovah's Witness who have faithfully followed God's organization on earth will be saved from eternal annihilation and reside forever on Paradise earth. Heaven, however, is a place for a special group of 144,000 Jehovah's Witnesses -- the only ones who are "born again" and who alone are allowed to take communion in their annual communion service. These are the ones who have "immortal life," all other Witnesses have "everlasting life." Those with immortal life do not have resurrected bodies. They have "spirit bodies." Those on Paradise Earth have everlasting life and consists of a resurrected body that must be maintained through eating, rest, etc. When you study with the Jehovah's Witness, you agree to attend five meetings a week where you are taught from Watchtower literature. You cannot be baptized until you have studied their material for at least six months and have answered numerous questions before a panel of elders. Men are not supposed have long hair or wear beards and women are to dress in modest apparel. They refuse to vote, salute the flag, sing the "Star Spangled Banner, celebrate birthdays or Christmas, won't take blood transfusions, and they can't join the armed forces. A schedule of door-to-door canvassing is required where you distribute the Watchtower literature, acquire donations, and forward all monies to the headquarters in Brooklyn, New York. If you ever leave the Jehovah's Witness organization, you are considered an apostate and are to be shunned. ___________________
  20. You are biblically incorrect when you say "true speaking in tongues would have everyone hearing in their own language"-the scripture makes it plain-that there is more than one purpose or use for speaking in tongues-and in fact states="he who speaks in a tongue, DOES NOT SPEAK TO MAN, BUT TO GOD------INDEED NO ONE UNDERSTANDS" So, there goes your theory.
  21. When Arafat dies he will burn in hell. As far as him being buried in Jerusalam-that would be akin to OBL being buried in Arlington. Not gonna happen.
  22. Are you speaking of the baptism In the Holy Spirit? If so-then this baptism is a baptism Jesus gives to believers-those already saved. It is for power. It is usually accompianed by speaking in tongues as the Spirit enables. We have examples of this in Acts 2:4, Acts 10:46, Acts 19:6. Being baptized in water is NOT for babies-it is for believers. It is also according to scripture to be done by immersion-that's where the word "baptise" comes from. "immersion". It would be ok-but if you want a Pastor to do it then that's ok too. However, don't get baptized unless your absolutly sure you have given your life to Jesus.
  23. No one laid hands on the disciples and they received the baptism in the Holy Spirit with speaking in tongues. False statements ie--- Only the apostles or those commissioned by them (by the laying on of hands) could perform or receive a miracle." This modification to account for the above counterexamples still fails. Ananias prayed for Paul and he received his sight (Acts 9:17-18), but absolutely nothing indicates that Ananias received a special commissioning from the Twelve. Paul and Barnabas were not of the Twelve nor commissioned by them, but God performed many miracles in their ministry (Acts 14:3). The New Testament promises miracles to all believers without restriction or discrimination. Jesus promised that ALL believers could speak in tongues and experience other miracles (Mark 16:17-18). All believers can receive answers to prayer, including miracles (Matthew 21:22; Mark 11:22-24; John 14:12-14; 15:7). Local elders can pray successfully for the saints' divine healing and all saints can pray for each other's healing (James 5:14-16). Miracles and tongues are God's gift to the whole church (I Corinthians 12:8-10, 28). (3)False:-- "Miracles were only for the days of the apostles." The passages cited above discredit this statement, for none specify a time limitation. To the contrary, each was given to all believers or to the church as a whole without restriction as to time. Paul wrote I Corinthians to the entire church of all ages, addressing it "unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours" (I Corinthians 1:2). He expressed confidence that they would "come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ" (I Corinthians 1:7). That book discusses the gifts of the Spirit, including gifts of healing, working of miracles, and kinds of tongues (I Corinthians 12:8-10), 50 Paul clearly expected the church to retain and properly use all the spiritual gifts until Christ's return. Everyone agrees that the Great Commission applies to the church today, and so must its fulfillment. The Early Church fulfilled it: "And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following" (Mark 16:20); "God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will" (Hebrews 2:4). If we have the same Lord, the same commission, the same gospel, the same faith, and the same needy world, surely we will have the same signs accompanying and confirming our message. Tongues Have Not Ceased I Corinthians 13:8-10 states, "Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. Some people use this passage to teach that tongues have ceased, by identifying "that which is perfect" with the completed New Testament. This argument fails for a number of reasons: (1) The spiritual gifts, including tongues, will reside in the church until the second coming of Christ (I Corinthians 1:2, 7). (2) This being so, it is logical to identify "that which is perfect" with Jesus Christ or, more specifically, with the Second Coming of Christ. The Greek word translated as "perfect" is teleion, which is neuter singular, but the Greek language always refers to the Scriptures in the feminine plural. (3) Tongues will cease at the same time as prophecy and knowledge, according to verse 8. Prophecy includes inspired preaching, praising, and testifying. Obviously the church still has prophecy and knowledge. (4) The Bible and miracles do not have interchangeable functions. The Bible presents the Word of God in written form, but God still uses miracles, signs, and spiritual gifts to confirm the Word (Mark 16:20; Hebrews 2:4). (5) In I Corinthians 13:11-13, Paul compared levels of spiritual growth to physical and mental growth, but he did not label tongues as childish. He compared our partial knowledge to the perfect knowledge we shall have when Christ returns. If we have already reached the ultimate stage, then we are more mature than Paul was, for he died before the completion of the New Testament. If speaking in tongues be childish, Paul never left the childish stage, for he continually spoke in tongues (I Corinthians 14:18). (6) The New Testament is God's Word, but we are not yet perfect, nor is the world perfect. Perfection will come only after Christ returns.
  24. Wow guys, get a grip=the quote "the rushing winds and tongues of fire never appeared again IN SCRIPTURE" is still truth. -no mention of it in any other baptism in the Spirit that was written down in the Book. No one is saying it can never happen now. Sheeesh!
