  1. 2 Thessalonians 2 The Man of Lawlessness 1Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers, 2not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by some prophecy, report or letter supposed to have come from us, saying that the day of the Lord has already come. 3Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for (that day will not come) until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness[a] is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. 4He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be God. 5Don't you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things? 6And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time. 7For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way. 8And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming. 9The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, 10and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie 12and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness. Stand Firm 13But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth. 14He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings[c] we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter. 16May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, 17encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word. Could this passage of scripture be referring to things like abiogenesis and macro-evolution? I can't see how you could absolutely deny that it could.
  2. I wouldn't go that far. It doesn't mention Christ at all. From what I've been taught, satan doesn't mind people believing in God as long as Jesus is out of the loop.
  3. I know tht the health care system and insurance industry, along with the pharmacutical companies, have conspired to rip us off of as much money as possible, but it's also true that, and I've said this before on this board, any time a liberal starts talking about health care, it's time to run for your wallet. The best solution is for the government to butt out. I haven't see the movie. Why would i want to make a liar like Michael Moore richer? You wouldn't. I haven't seen a single movie of his. Probably never will. Anderson Cooper was trying (in his own weak way) to say what you are trying to say here. The lady agreed with him. She said something like, "if we don't make money, there's little point in doing what we do". She made this sound like we should want these companies to make lots of money, otherwise you wouldn't have anyone providing healthcare and we'd all die.
  4. It is exciting to hear of the progress that is being made. What are the main obstacles that have to be overcome to actually see the construction of the Temple? Obviously the people in charge need to have a change of heart in order to make such a large step. I've heard others say that it will take a significant event to move the people of Israel to action. Something that causes them to set aside their unbelief and desire the Temple over and above their fears and doubts. I believe there are those who think an attack from Russia or something like that is what finally breaks the will of the people.
  5. Well, all I will say is this. Anyone who did not attempt to inform themselves prior to the war in Iraq, and thus just went along with the flimsy case for war the Administration was selling the American people, deserves the government that we have today, and can't complain about the mess we are in today either. The case for war was so flimsy that anyone who cared to inform themselves would have seen right through it from the start. The administration should have listened to Colin Powell. I think he saw through it from the start. Which only makes it that much worse really. It was Colin Powell that knowingly threw out a pack of lies from Cheney's office to the U.N. to make the case for war. and you know this how? hindsight is 20/20
  6. I haven't seen it yet, but the health system and insurance companies are an easy target. I saw Anderson Cooper the other night looking into the truth of the claims made by the film. And one point, he brought a person speaking on behalf of the insurance industry. She tried to explain the misrepresentation she felt existed in some of the case studies. For example, the fact some of the cases were several years old. She also tried to make it sound like health insurance and health insurance companies are the greatest thing in the world. The problem is that employers don't buy enough coverage for their employees, hence you have examples of people being left with billable items uncovered. Anderson was a bit of a softy on her when he challenged some of her statements. Her solution made it sound like, "by more insurance, we'll be happy to pay for your healthcare costs".

  8. You may be right. I do read where there is weaping and gnashing of teeth. I've heard some teaching that suggests this isn't necessarily people destined for hell but people who, like I suggest, got their ticket punched and are in heaven but realize they wasted their opportunity on earth. I'm not claiming this to be THE message that is meant here but there is room for this possibility if you read it. You won't find me fighting anyone for this translation. I simply am trying to emphasize the perspective that we are here for such as short amount of time, we have but this one opportunity at life to please our Heavenly Father. We''ll will be rewarded in Heaven for the "works" that do not burn up when tested with fire.
  9. If a single person wanted to adopt a homeless child, I couldn't possibly see the problem with this. Otherwise, I think it's a cop out by a seriously misled person. My sister is a divorced mother of two who, bless her heart, tries as best she can to play the role of mom and dad. Her ex beat her so she doesn't maintain ANY contact with him. I guarantee she wishes she had the other half to raise these boys in the right way. Don't get me wrong, they're good boys, but you can tell THEY starve for a father figure which oftentimes becomes....me.

    Why Hillary?

It's the number of, and timing of her flip flops that give her away.
  11. Yuck.. sounds to me like it's time for a new church! My church provides for my every need, spiritually, emotionally, scripturally, and occassionally physically. I wish it were that easy. There are a variety of factors that play into why we go to the church we do, one of which we live in a small town and there's few choices. I feel I get more hugs here: More handshakes: More love: There's clearly ministry going on here. I know of a few people who participate on Worthy in which this is one of their few links to anyone. That could be because they can't get around too well or generally have trouble feeling accepted other places.
  12. Though I do realize it's not a church, I feel more at home here than I do at my own church. I feel I learn more here than I do at my own church. When you think about the church in terms of being a body, we have more parts of that body represented here than at my own church. At my church, we tend to have alot of people who think and act the same. Who are too afraid to say what is on their minds and hearts. So, while this is not a church, I consider it like a supplement vitamin. The nutrition I'm not getting at my church, I supplement with a dose of Worthy.
  13. I don't mean to pick apart little bits of your words, but I saw this and felt this was an important question. Is God a real and living entity to you? Or is He more of an obscure concept you'd like to think exists but aren't really sure? As far as prayer goes, we do so because He asks us to in His word. We hear from Him through reading His word and meditating on it. I know I've asked things that are relative to my relationship with him and many times have been surprised by the revelation I receive when reading a passage of scripture that didn't make as much sense to me before. All the sudden it's as though my eyes were opened and I'm really reading it for the first time. I also receive assurances while meditating. Do I pray for great Alfredo sauce? No, not really. It isn't something that is important to growing my relationship with Him or necessarily affect my future path that I trust He has me pointed on. Would I pray for my kids to get well if they are sick. Yes, and I have. I have prayed for other answers and recieved some amazing results. There was one particular instance where I prayed for an answer to something (for the sake of brevity I'll not go into the details) and things happened that were way out of the ordinary to let me know what the answer was. I also struggle at times to feel that I'm of any significance in the grand scheme of His plans. Why try to make a difference with anything because He's already got it planned out? But I know I still have to do my part. He created me for a purpose. The bible tells us that satan is the master of confusion. No one benefits more from our confusion than him. I have to tell myself that when I begin to feel confused and I let that confusion stand between me and God, that there's only one person who that can benefit and not terribly interested in benefiting him any.
  14. Like the lyric in Amazing Grace, "when we've been there, ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun. We've known less days, to sing God's praise, then when we first begun". Imagine 1,000,000 years from now.... The troubles of today being so, so far in the past. An eternity yet to go. All because of the Love poured out by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Righteous, peace, and joy in their purest form. To be lived out forever and ever. WOW! Makes you believe you can face just about anything here today. To yeild to His will to carry out His purpose for the tiny blip of time we are here. Let Him have His way with your life today. It's certainly a challenge to me. Way too often, I'm caught up in the worries of THIS life. Working for treasures in THIS world. Believing I should have it all now and then. I have to face the fact that I'll be in His presence some day and we'll be reviewing what I did to fulfill the purpose He has for me. I so desparately want to hear, "Well done my good and faithful servant" from my Lord. Will you be there too? Will we worship the Lord together for that eternity? Will you help me fulfill my purpose and will you let me help you fulfill yours? I want so desparately to be led by the Spirit. Why oh why do I struggle with this flesh!?! I should be farther along in my spiritual life than I am! Will I get there and be sorrowful for the time wasted? The opportunities wasted? All I can do is trust that He is at work in me, pray, and learn the Word. Trust that some day, yes some day, I'll hear my King say, "Good and faithful servant" as He hands me a crown of glory. And I will place it at His feet saying, "You alone are Worthy", "You alone are Worthy". For 1,000,000 years and more.

    Why Hillary?

What list did you read?? She did NOTHING any other senator wouldn't do for his/her constituents! The DNC can be proud that they have successfully pulled the wool of the electorates eyes on this candidate. Indeed. If only she would continue to do these inane, basically harmless, pandering-type activities if she were elected...I'd feel much safer, but alas, I fear she has more dastardly deeds planned if somehow she managed to pull off a victory. We need a sarcasm emoticon... I was hoping the sarcasm would be recognized when someone read the list. I clearly failed to convey this. Omigosh! I am sorry! lol I didn't notice who posted it!! My goodness...whew, it won't happen again. Can I do something to make this snafu up to you, undone?? Really.... undone, I think you have a golden opportunity here... LOL! I'm saving it for just the right time...

By using our tax dollars as pork, no doubt. You left off the eyes-rolling smilie so that we know you are just interjecting sarcasm and not that you have even the slightest bit of evidence which would leave you no doubt about such a claim. Oh, that's right, I'm sure she paid for them with her own money. The point being you don't have a clue and yet are perfectly happy to make a negative comment. Do you even know if she actually "managed to get a couple of libraries named in her years as senator"? In five years as the most influential Democrat in the Senate, Hillary has managed to get the following laws and resolutions enacted:
