Shalom, While these good works are wonderful things and Christians should do them, the point is, not everyone who loves one another, or who visits orphans and widows, loves their wife etc. is a truly born-again Believer. There are people who do wonderful things, but are not born-again. Only G-D knows the heart and know who is or who is not a true Believer.

Shalom, NO ONE said that we are not to repent. No one. However, the thrust of this thread is whether we are to treat our brothers and sisters with GRACE or CONDEMNATION. And we are not to put ourselves in a position to judge their salvation by what we THINK we see or don't see as fruit. The topic is not whether we are to repent of our sins. The Scriptures say we are. BUT, the Scriptures do not say to beat up with brothers and sisters with condemnation, but to walk in grace towards other Believers, even those in sin.

Shalom Bib, What a sweet thing to say! Thank you!! G-d bless you!!

Shalom Bib, You know, as I said out the outset, I see both sides. You've made some really important points from your own experience. If your Pastor had NOT been real friends with your dad, only G-d knows if your dad would have ever gotten saved. I guess we really have to pray, seek the L-rd and take each case individually and can't really say blanketly one way or the other. I don't believe it's a Scriptural issue as much as one of opinion and conviction.

Shalom, I agree. I think the term "friend" is causing misunderstanding. We can be friendly, loving, concerned, courteous, and more and not be "bosom buddies" with this person. To me, Friendship implies intimacy, a deep, personal relationship. I have many acquaintances that I like and that like me and we spend time together, talk on the phone, do things together, but very few real FRIENDS. I can have non-Christian acquaintances, but I do not wish to have non-Christian REAL friends. BTW, I DO eat with non-Christians and do all sorts of other things with them, and see noting wrong with that, but as to sharing intimacy and deep personal relationships, I want that person to share Jesus or we really have nothing in common past the "acquaintance" level.

Shalom, Interesting question. I was born in the 50s. YES, from a MORAL standpoint, I totally agree, we saw and heard less sin in the earlier years, but it was still there, behind the scenes. My dad was a drunk, and an abuser, but it just wasn't talked about. I was sexually abused as a child by a stranger, but again, it wasn't talked about. When unmarried teenage girls got pregnant, they got "sent away" to have their baby, put him/her up for adoption and come back. It was there, it just was hidden from others for the sake of propriety. You see, every era had its problem with sin, because without Jesus, we are sinful people! In the church in Paul's time, there was a man who was sexually immoral with his father's wife. And even in this day of outward moral decay, there are the faithful to Jesus. And from a TECHNICAL and MEDICAL standpoint, I am SO THANKFUL to be living in this time because I am in remission from a terrible type of blood cancer, Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia and they used a NEW treatment on me that was not available until recently. Just a few years ago, the type of cancer I have was a death sentence in most cases. I guess we need to weigh the pros and cons before we romantically think that it was greener on the other grass. :laug

Oprah set to begin new age study for 1 year
Vickilynn replied to Candi770's topic in General Discussion
Shalom, The really SAD and SCARY thing is, that so many people hang on every word out of Oprah's mouth. Anything SHE recommends is gold. Even some Christian ladies I know think Oprah is tops. Very, very scary indeed to follow man and not G-d. We need to pray for Oprah, to find the REAL truth from the Word and for those that she affects, that they will not be taken in by this false teaching. -

Shalom Candi, Thanks for bumping this up. These words are so very comforting, encouraging and challenging! Thank you! -
Shalom David, Why would you want the Apocrypha? And wondering why you felt the need to tell us you bought a book filled with magic? Why was that important to share?

in days gone by when most well off people had domestic staff, the staff would have been required to work long and hard all through Christmas day waiting and serving on thier masters and mistresses guests and family etc. Just imagine how busy the kitchens must be ! The day after Christmas day was the day where the staff were rewarded for all thier hard work , All staff would be presented with gifts in boxes, this is where "Boxing Day" comes from, and most if not all were then given day off in some cases the roles were reversed and the staff would be waited on by their masters and mistresses. Shalom Andrew, WOW, that's cool. Thanks for the info. I love things Victorian so I'm gonna read up on it. It was Victorian, right?

Shalom Y'all, For those reading, I PMd my question to our brother and he replied that the ESV was good and had high recommendations, but the NASB remained the most accurate to the Hebrew and Greek. I appreciate that info. I use the NASB in my personal Bible, but I use the ESV online.

Shalom, Revival means that we are open to the Holy Spirit and allow Him full access to revive us, cleanse us and make us more like Jesus. We can do that on a daily basis.
