  1. Some of the saints are 6 Mennonites who were arrested: Rev. Nguyen Hong Quang (working at a labor camp), Le Thi Hong Lien (has suffered a mental breakdown as a result of the prison abuse and is institutionalized following her release), Pham Ngoc Thach, Nguyen Thanh Phuong, Nguyen Thanh Nhan and Nguyen Hieu Nghia. Please also pray for PD, PQ, BS, AS and MS and those they work with and serve.
  2. It's ok, once a JW told me that she caught cancer from a blood transfusion. If you've been following my general style of posting here, you can imagine the response. I now label JWs as "crazy cult" and can't wait to see their members fight it out, as to who is going to get into heaven. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They believe Jesus, who is also the archangel Michael, began his invisible rule over the earth in 1914 (The Truth Shall Make You Free, pg. 300; Watchtower 11/1/93, pg. 23) and the time of the Gentiles ended (Watchtower, 5/1/93, pg. 11) and the beginning of the end of the world began (Watchtower 11/15/50, pg. 438). Why 1914? It starts with the incorrect date of 607 BC when they say Jerusalem fell under Nebuchadnezzar... in Daniel 4 they apply a 360-day year for each of the "seven periods of time" in verse 23 which brings a total of 2520 years, so the dates added bring them to 1914. They think all the impulses to sin are in the blood... "The blood in any person is in reality the person himself. It contains all the peculiarities of the individual from whence it comes. This includes hereditary taints, disease susceptibilities, poisons due to personal living, eating and drinking habits. . . . The poisons that produce the impulse to commit suicide, murder, or steal are in the blood." (Watchtower 9/15/1961, pg. 564)
  3. I saw that on CNN last night... it was soooo cute! They were so happy to see their trainers they were literally "flipping out," lol The youngest dolphin's name is... Noah, lol. In the CNN article there are two links in a green box to videos about it.
  4. They would prob'ly kill each other first before any catastrophy had a chance!
  5. Sorry, Seraph - I didn't mean it like that. I was trying to explain . . . oh, never mind. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I know... no worries. ----> <---- = I was winking so I wasn't truly offended It's just that when some people bash Hollywood, they often don't recognize the fact that Hollywood is supplying the consumer demand from every metropolis, suburb, town, community, township, etc. all over the States and beyond. Hollywood wouldn't be spending millions to put it out there if they weren't making billions from people paying for it. Yeah, a LOT of trash comes from Hollywood... but so does some good.
  6. I thought I should split off my posts in the Hospital Horrors thread as the original post was dealing with a specific possible hospital incident and the horror at St. Rita's was a separate incident... I just think this is a situation we should be aware of. I had worked with the developmentally disabled for 10 years, and some of the staff and I discussed what we would do in the case of an emergency since one of the buildings was a 3-story... elevators might not be safe, our clients couldn't walk... we concluded if need be we would toss them on blankets and drag them down the stairs! I'm just at a loss as to why they were not evacuated... I just don't understand. I know what excuse they have offered (quoted near the end of this post), but they were in a very vulnerable area, other nursing homes evacuated, they had the warning, they had the means to move them... *sigh* ... did they "do their best" in trying to save these people? I imagine the staff were scared themselves... and the water rose so quickly- there it had risen, I believe, 8 feet in 15 minutes... so maybe they "just waited too long" and then were helpless. *sigh* I really can't image the terror the patients must have felt as the floated closer and closer to the ceiling- unable to save themselves
  7. I found two others (quoted below), but I have no idea how reliable they are... nothing on bbc.com, cnn.com, latimes.com, etc, etc.
  8. What's an earthquake kit? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> lol... emergency stuff we would need if trapped/injured from an earthquake... first aid, flashlight, icky food pack things, water, shiny silver thermal blankie, whistle, knife, help sign, all that stuff... we are supposed to carry them in our cars along with walking shoes. It has also been recommended for ppl to add ICE1, ICE2, ICE3, etc #s in your cell phone... so if something happens to you an you can't respond, emergency workers can look in your cell's addy book and find the ICE (In Case of Emergency) entries and contact your family/friends.
  9. Hey hey hey!!! iiiiiiiiiii'm in California! Not all the angelinos are sending out a bad message from the City of Angels. And just a thought here, but... there are more people watching everything that Hollywood puts out than there are producers, directors, and actors putting it out there. I noticed at a local grocery store last week there were "earthquake kits" for $10. I had an emergency kit, but mine was old and thrown out... I need another.
  10. Yes, I do too- I would like to see PROOF that these doctors INTENTIONALLY gave these patients an overdose with the INTENT to kill them. I think this is a case of ignorance spewing uneducated information without thinking things through just to get a news story God bless, Tim <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have searched the web but havne't found any "big name" news sources reporting this... I found mention of it on www.mirror.co.uk and www.dailytelegraph.news.com.au. I don't know if these or the original link (www.dailymail.co.uk) are credible or not. Anyone know???
  11. But if the mark wasn't detectable (i.e. visible or scannable, etc) then how could it be used to buy or sell? Are you saying it would be spiritually discerned by other nonbelievers? Like Ovedya mentioned... it seems as if the Bible indicates it is visible... the word means "a stamp or imprinted mark."
  12. That's a hard question to answer- kind of a cause/effect situation ? Yes, Morphine can kill- it's a very powerful pain reliever that along with pain relief ( therapeutic effect ) it also causes respiratory depression ( side effect )- and that's what kills...you actually die if you have too much from not breathing and essentially you suffocate ( due to not breathing as fast as you normally would ). Did the Morphine itself kill- no, I doubt it. Their immune system ( and over all body strength as a whole ) was weak to begin with. I believe that the doctors made educated decisions - and the price was worth the cost...being comfortable is a fair price to pay in sacrifice of a few more torturous hours of life. Just my ( somewhat educated ) opinion Tim <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I know it can kill, I am just curious if the Dr's said they intentionally gave a lethal dose, or if they said they administered enough morphine to reduce the terror, ease the pain or whatever.
  13. Was it the Morphine that actually killed them? Or did the Morphine help ease the pain as they were dying? This made me think of in the battlefield- when someone was wounded and they were not going to make it and couldn't be moved, they were given Morphine- any military people know if this is truly done??? An absolutely horrible thing occured at St. Rita's Nursing Home- the residents must have been so terrified as they drowned SENIORS DIED IN KATRINA HORROR HOME - NY Post Nobody knows why about 30 elderly residents were left to die in the rising floodwaters, but the signs of their final, terrified struggle to survive can be seen in every mud-smeared room and corridor. Horror Scene in Nursing Home - The Charlotte Observer Each closed door inside St. Rita's darkened hallways is a nightmare. Some are blocked by tangled heaps of furniture and bodies. The body count is cursory, a blackened hand sticking out from between a gurney and collapsed wall being tallied as one person. 'Worst thing I've ever seen' St. Rita's Nursing Home didn't evacuate - Dallas NewsDetails of what happened at the facility are still sketchy, but the descriptions of what's inside the single-story, football-field-size building horrify even hardened disaster veterans. The body of one elderly woman, clothed in a thin housedress, was on the concrete floor of the front patio. The thin, bony body of an old man was draped over the back of a chair, where the receding waters left it. A blackened hand was sticking out from between a gurney and collapsed wall. At least some of the bodies remained in the nursing home Wednesday because the water outside the facility had been too high for workers to bring in vehicles to remove them. Tables had been nailed against windows and wheelchairs had been piled up in an apparent effort to keep the water out, rescue workers said. The smell of rotting human flesh clung to clothing of searchers going through the building. The high water mark reached a foot shy of the ceiling. Six inches of sewage, mud and putrefied tissue coated the floor in a slippery, dark brown scum strewn with broken furniture, bodies and wheelchairs. Bodies removed from nursing home - Lexington Herald Leader VIOLET, La. - (KRT) - An old fisherman saw them last, on mattresses floating at the ceiling in St. Rita's Nursing Home, water rising fast under them. On his first trip, he'd gotten the Alonzo brothers out, Gene and Carlo, men he'd fished with in the Gulf of Mexico for years. With panic and Hurricane Katrina setting in, he made a second trip to get Jimmy Martinez's aging wife Peggy. But as the hurricane made landfall on Aug. 29, luck ran out for 67-year-old Tony Buffone and everyone else in St. Rita's. It was his third trip to the lonely brick building, which was flooding with merciless speed like the mangrove swamp around it. "When they went back in there, them people in there were a foot from the ceiling on mattresses," said Ronald Michael Robin, 69, aboard the fishing boat Invincible Vance, where Buffone returned in shock to weather the storm. "They couldn't get them out.
  14. Just a thought, but... a reason I was thinking the mark would be visible (as opposed to microchips which aren't) was as a source of pride from the ac.
  15. I personally would not be able to prove Jesus' existence to another person, (because I am sooo not a scientist or academic) other than to tell them about the changes in my life, as a result of the Holy Spirit living in me (which Jesus left for me). I know that I would be dead right now, if it were not for the Holy Spirit. (snip) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't think anyone can really prove He exists... if we could, faith would not exist. Hebrews 11:1 - Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. We can present the evidence for His existence, we can share our personal experience, but it comes down to free will to repsond or not to the Holy Spirit working on our heart. Since God wants all to be saved, I believe He provides sufficient evidence to bring anyone to believe- but due to free will, they can deny such evidence.
  16. OK.... I had been able to see 4 threads + 2 pinned in the forum on the first page, then I could click the other pages and find more threads but was still missing some. Now I can ONLY see the 2 pinned threads and can ONLY get here by using My Assistant and then clicking My Last 10 Posts EDITED TO ADD: OK... this is just going k0oKy.... now I can see this one and the other pages.... GEORGE... HELP, lol
  17. I can't view it from the apologetics forum either... but since I posted there, I can view it by using My Assistant- or by using the link Joy in the Journey gave... it's not the only one that I can't view though

    Why Hell?

God did not create hell as a place to send people to... it was created for the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41). Only through willfull rejection of Christ does a person send themselves there- they choose to live apart from God in this life and the next... their choice (John 5:24). God wants all people to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4)... He sent His Son to die for us when we were sinners (Romans 5:8)... when we deserved hell... but out of His mercy and love, He calls to us- He stands at the door and knocks- if He wants us to be saved... don't you think He would make it easy to be saved? We don't have to earn it, we just have to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 10:13)... we are the ones that make it difficult out of our pride, our greed, our anger, etc. Jesus gave the greatest sacrifice, humbled Himself as man and died for us (John 15:13) ... and yet we want more. The fact is, the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23)... so either we pay that debt, or receive Christ's atoning death to pay that debt for us... either way the debt will be paid. "The King will answer and say to them, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.' "Then He will also say to those on His left, 'Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels ; for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink; I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.' "Then they themselves also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?' "Then He will answer them, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent * that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.' "These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life." -Matthew 25:40-46 ********** "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life. -John 5:24 ********** "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. "For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. "He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. -John 3:16-18 ********** First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time. -1 Timothy 2:1-6 ********** But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. -Romans 5:8 ********** "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED." -Romans 10:13 ********** "Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. -John 15:13
  19. As far as I understand, amillennialism is the belief that there will be no literal, earthly kingdom established... no thousand year reign of Christ... that they view prophecy allegorically... and that the literal promises to Israel were transferred to the church in a spiritualized way. I disagree. Revelation 20:4b They came to life and reigned with the Messiah for 1,000 years.
  20. Texas isn't waiting for federal money to get things going... they already have the kids in school with the help of a hotline # they set up so parents would know which school their kids should go to... they have extra bus drivers to get them there and are hiring more teachers. At the superdome, they set up a make-shift post office with its own zip code and evacuees received mail today. Houston residents can donate food and other items by simply leaving the items in bags at their curbside- the city's Solid Waste Management Department and the local City Wide Club charity will pick the donations up for their food and clothes drive. In Midland retired military personnel wanted to help, so some World War II-era planes based in Texas have been used to ferry supplies to Louisiana hurricane victims. Amazing to see them get so organized out of the chaos and not let these people stagnate in a shelter but actually move forward. Pretty cool I think. Texas is my hero, lol.
  21. I voted He does exist because... ...He does ...I have a personal relationship with my Lord and Saviour. ...I have received direct answer to specific prayers. ...Jesus fulfilling prophecies 100% correctly about His first coming and will fulfill the prophecies of His second coming... and other prophecies fulfilled 100% correctly or will be. ...the inerrancy of the Bible. All "made up" books puporting to be the word of god contain obvious errors. ...other false religions, false doctrines and cults are made up how one would expect someone to make them up (i.e. man becoming god) like a myth or fairy tale- taking what is seen and making an explanation... and is disproved... evidence picks apart their "truths". Christianity is different... God spoke and we can see support of His Word building... not being taken away. ...the universe and its life couldn't have happened without a Creator- evolution was a superficially logical secular theory, but has become less than that as researched... at one point I had thought the theory was credible, but now I see evidence of a Creator, not happenstance. ...Christian and nonchristian eye-witness accounts of Jesus. Are there any credible "eye-witness" accounts that these eye-witness accounts were made up?
  22. NEBULA??? Where's our science lesson explaining how when light enters the droplet of water it is refracted- each color having a different wavelength is bent differently so the colors appear in different places- violet with the shorter wavelength appearing at the inner/lower part of the bow, red with the longer wavelength appearing at the outer/higher part of the bow... we see the red of the higher droplets and the violet from the lower droplets because of the index of refraction or somethin' like that??? Nebie, you got some 'splainin to do I like that sidenote! Okay, these are my feeble thoughts His words shall not pass away... God transcends time and space, so maybe because His promise was manifested to humans at a particular time from our human perspective- but His Word always was and always will be, that promise transcends time and space and our human perspective so the promise has always been and always will be at the throne... and angels are messengers of God, sooo.... somethin' like that Or nothin' like that This rainbow in Rev 1:4 was unto an emerald... only refracted green wavelengths are seen??? Maybe I'm stretching it here but what I find really special about rainbows is that each person sees a unique rainbow since no two people can be standing in the same place and the raindrops are in constant motion... each observer sees a "different" rainbow... kinda personal The promise made to each of us individually and collectively. What I find ironic, is that the symbol of "gay pride" is a rainbow... they take and pervert the symbol of God's promise of not destroying people because of their sinfulness like He did with the flood.
  23. Schwarzenegger Urged to Sign, Veto Same-Sex Marriage Bill Hopefully he will veto it... even if he doesn't veto it because it's the right thing to do, then at least because he needs the votes from those who think he should veto it.
