  1. As I check other links, I noticed that those who live a monastic lifestyle are considered to be Christian Mystics also. I wonder if Monks consider themselves mystics in this manner? OneLight
  2. In bold in your third paragraph is how I see myself in knowing God. Never knew there was a name for it besides "Discipleship". As for the description of beliefs in the first paragraph, I'll have to come back to this later. Thanks for taking your time to help me understand. OneLight
  3. I searched the Bible for any type of Christian Mystic and came up empty. Could of been the words I used in my search. Can you point me to what you have found about the subject? I rarely use wikipedia, but it had the most information that I found in a quick search. I did not dig too deep on the internet. I thought I would ask here first.
  4. I was hoping that those who respond here would leave an explanation to why they say what they say. Maybe you just feel like voicing your opinion ... the problem with this is that I am trying to understand the "why" behind how people feel. I am truly interested and not just bring up a subject that we can debate. So far, only ~~hurting~~ has passed information unto me that has substance. Thanks in advance, OneLight
  5. One Light one thing I can tell you is that they are not Christian. There is just no such thing as a Christian Mystic. Such things are of the devil who mascarades as an angel of light. Really? C.S. Lewis was a Christian mystic. Was he "of the devil"? You seem to have some knowledge of them. Please share!
  6. One Light one thing I can tell you is that they are not Christian. There is just no such thing as a Christian Mystic. Such things are of the devil who mascarades as an angel of light. That was my first thought, but I decided to drill deeper then this. Can you give me your reasons why you feel this way? I really would like to know more about them. I looked at this site, Wikipedia and found some strange answers and names of those who they list as Christians Mystics. OneLight
  7. While on another board, I was reading a thread about Christian Mystics. There were only a few posts, so I decided to check the web. What I found was helpful to some extent, but it still left me with a bunch of questions. One thing that was mentioned is that they have been around for a very long time, so I don't see them as being part of the New Age Christian Movement. I'd like to hear what people here know about them. Care to share? OneLight
  8. I hang my head in shame over how my state has turned their eyes to the world for acceptance. I had heard of this not too long ago. I don't keep an eye on local politics, but was floored as I listened to Rev. Gene Robinson, a Bishop in NH, on C-SPAN, which had been taped from 11/27/2007. I guess the title "Live Free or Die" has gone with the flow of the world. OneLight
  9. I can remember when this first happened to me. I was scared that I had done something very wrong and that God was mad at me. This was years ago. I asked a Sister why this would happen and what could I of done so wrong. She smiled as she hugged me and then told me something that I have never forgotten. Jesus is like out parents. As we begin to take our first steps, He holds our hands and gives us the confidence that we will not fall and that walking is possible. This goes on for some time, until He lets one hand loose. Then we need to focus on our balance. He continues to do so until He knows that we are ready for our first step, without Him holding our hand. When He lets go, and watches with a big smile on His face as we wobble toward another set of outreached hands, we are all alone. Nobody is helping us. We feel scared and frightened, alone in our task. Yet, because of this, we grew. There have been times in my life when I did not feel Gods hand holding me. It is during these times that I grew the most, because I was given the faith to continue. If I did not believe in this portion of faith that was given me, but looked around at everything else, I would surely fall. But I kept my eyes on Jesus and stood. Hope this helps. Your Brother In Christ, OneLight
  10. I do so understand your pain. I lost my mother years ago and went through the same guilt. There was one thing that did come out of that time that still comforts me, the Bible tells us that His word will not return to Him void. Isaiah 55:10-11 For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, But water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower And bread to the eater, So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. Because you spoke of your concerns to others, they planted the seed. We may never know until we are there ourselves, but we have another promise. Acts 16:30-32 And he brought them out and said,
  11. So Onelight you think we should all be slaves of the government. Well that would be a really odd situation, "slaves that pay for their masters to exist". Oh, unless you are comparing us to farm animals who "produce" for their master in exchange for a place to sleep and food ....... hey, wait a minute .... no government ever provided its people with a place to sleep and food. God has done that, but not members of man's government. And it get even more puzzling because God through the people of a country always provide a place to sleep and food for members of man's government and yet you are saying they are the slaves of the members of man's government. Now there's got to be an explanation here somewhere ....... hmm, just got to do a lot of figuring out, twisting facts maybe? So, I'm no good at paraphrasing, but I'm sure you're smart enough to get the picture. Just in case you're really having a hard time with it ... Romans 13:1-7 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. For he is God
  12. I haven't found one that is as friendly as this one is. I've been on some that are down right rude.
  13. Cool really? I was actually posting this just for general sharing! I never knew! If a Mod/Admin can many move to this to Testimonies or something, please do! I would like to keep it open. Try clicking on the link above to check it out. It's the word that is underlined.
  14. For sure, in the last days there will be false prophets and false teachers. Many will be deceived. OneLight
  15. Thoughtful, Have you considered this scripture? It is Ezekiel prophesying over the King of Tyre. I have been taught that he was comparing the King to Satan. Lamentation for the King of Tyre Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, “Son of man, take up a lamentation for the king of Tyre, and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “ You were the seal of perfection, Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes Was prepared for you on the day you were created. “ You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, Till iniquity was found in you. “ By the abundance of your trading You became filled with violence within, And you sinned; Therefore I cast you as a profane thing Out of the mountain of God; And I destroyed you, O covering cherub, From the midst of the fiery stones. “ Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor; I cast you to the ground, I laid you before kings, That they might gaze at you. “ You defiled your sanctuaries By the multitude of your iniquities, By the iniquity of your trading; Therefore I brought fire from your midst; It devoured you, And I turned you to ashes upon the earth In the sight of all who saw you. All who knew you among the peoples are astonished at you; You have become a horror, And shall be no more forever.”’” It does not take to equal powers to have a battle. Just because Jesus is battling Satan does not mean that they are both equal at all. For you to slam everyone who has not answered .. I never checked this thread to see what you were discussing with anyone. I just popped in, say a big discussion going on , answered the OP's question and left. Does that mean that I'm running and hiding, a bad Christian that will not defend my beliefs? No, it means that I was not interested in your conversation. May I suggest that you step back and read what you post before hitting the Add Reply button. OneLight edited to correct spelling

    To Endure!

It may be easier for your walk with Him if you find out what He is asking of you. OneLight
  17. Dear Sister, There is a forum just for this. It's called Testimonies. Check it out! There are some really great testimonies there. OneLight
  18. The scripture you quoted starts in a certain way. Let's examine it. Romans 9:22 "What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction," This is a question, but a good one. What if God decided to do this. Would He not be justified in doing so, since He is the Creator of all? If He did, then He would have a perfect plan as to why. Some things we need to take in faith. This, to me, is one of them. To answer your question, No, Paul was not wrong. OneLight
  19. Thanks for the reminder. I forgot about this passage. It's true. We can not change anyone, so we do what ever we can to bring peace into a situation. Sometimes we succeed, sometimes we fail. OneLight
  20. We already have to show our ID for other reasons, like in some purchases. Why not for voting?? I don't understand the problem.
  21. Welcome to Worthy, gmom5! Even though I am for Jesus all the way, I see a hard road ahead for Huckabee concerning his statement , "The key issue of real faith is that it never can be forced on someone. And never would I want to use the government institutions to impose mine or anybody else's faith or to restrict," If Huckabee is led by the Spirit in all his doings, then he will ,in fact, be bringing his beliefs to the table. This statement will be hard to back up. He is going to have a hard time trying to convince people that his beliefs are not part of his decisions. I, for one, will vote for him. I would rather have a Christian leading this country, being led by the Holy Spirit, then someone that is not, no matter how much experience that person has. Yet, God will put into power whom He wishes to have there. OneLight
  22. HisMindinme, What is in me is the Holy Spirit, and He bears witness to me that which is the truth. It sounds to me that you have been hurt very much in your past experience. We can not live in the past, but in the present, by the guiding of the Holy Spirit, which speaks to us what He has been told by God. To do anything less is calling God a lier and the Bible false. The Holy Spirit will not lie to us, but Satan will try to have us believe that what God has for us is not true nor real. Speaking of Eve, Satan does lie and steals the truth from us, for the death that God spoke of was spiritual death, not physical death as Satan spoke of. You need to take off you blinders you have put on yourself and see beyond what you think is true, to the real truth. In another post, Why can't we all just get along? , you mentioned you state of being: "I am deeply, deeply, deeply sinful and wicked and in great need of His mind. I am not worthy, I am unworthy, I am a sinner to the core of my being and sold to sin, my mind enslaved to the lusts of the flesh and the sin in it." May I suggest you take to heart the following scripture, pertaining to your present view of yourself. Romans 6:1-14 Dead to Sin, Alive to God What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. Read the following scripture and pray that His Spirit will bring the truth to you. John 14:25-27 These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Romans 8:1-17 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors
  23. Guess you missed this part of it: Yup ... I did ... sorry. We all, like it or not, are told to submit ourselves to our government. This does not tell us that we have to agree with them, but abide by the laws set down to us. We may not like those in power, but were are to submit, as a slave does to their master. Nothing is said that we have to agree with them. Remember, God is in control, even if we can not see His hand in motion. OneLight
