  1. OneLight's post in Unsure of my other halfs salvation was marked as the answer
I read in scripture that we are to see if we measure up to His will in out lives, not if we should determine if anyone else measures up to our expectations of them.  Galatians 6:1-5
Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.  Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.  For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.  But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.  For each one shall bear his own load.
Each of us are at different places in our maturity in Christ.  Some may never mature much, others will mature by leaps and bounds.  Does this mean the former is less important than the latter?  Not in Gods eyes, I'm sure.  Be there for him with the love of Christ, but first be sure you are doing what scripture tells you to do.
  2. OneLight's post in The Flood was marked as the answer
First, we should never blame God for what we humans do.  He gave us the ability to decide for ourselves.
As for the reason why God brought on the flood, you can read why in Genesis 6:5-8
Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.  And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.  So the Lord said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.”  But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.

He was full of the Holy Spirit.  Stephen himself could not do the signs and wonders. Only God can, and used Stephen to do so as Stephan was a vessel He could use.

  5. OneLight's post in God was marked as the answer
You have asked more than one question, so I will split your post and try to give an answer for each.
Looking at this question through the eyes of the world can only enforce an idea that God does not care.  Looking through scripture we can see that out of every trial and tribulation there is a great lesson, not only for the one going through the tough times themselves, but for those who are in their pain and those who are watching from a distance.  Each trial creates it's own lesson.  The question I pose is Are you looking for a lesson that will bring you closer to God or only for relief?  I have watched while my older family members have died, all for different reasons.  We all will die.  We may also live through life with certain ailments.  I know I have some myself, but I don't seek to have them removed.  Instead, I use these so I can relate to others who are walking the same path so I can stand beside them and encourage them to continue and to allow Christ to work through me, supplying the others with something He knows they need.
Where is God?  Trying to get the attention of those who are His to help those in need.  There will always be the poor and sick.  What needs to be asked is where are His servants and what are they doing to help their neighbor?
God is looking for those who know true love.  Yes, He can look down through time and know who will love Him.  He also can look down through time and see some come to Him through the hate of others.  I believe what God is looking for is a true relationship with Him in love, not because He forced them to.
I assume you think God is sitting there enjoying watching people reject Him and His ways?  God has given us a free will to chose who we will follow and what we will do.  He is not a puppet sitting in heaven pulling strings as true love is not demanding.  You can read this in 1 Corinthians 13
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.  Love never fails.

  6. OneLight's post in how much power does the Enemy have? was marked as the answer
Satan doesn't have power over you, yet he will lie to you, try to discourage you, and do his best to cause you to turn from God.  That is why we read in Ephesians 6:10-20
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.  Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
    Added a Passage (George)
Luk 10:19  Behold, I give to you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the authority of the enemy. And nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Luk 10:20  Yet do not rejoice in this, that the evil spirits are subject to you, rather rejoice because your names are written in Heaven.

  8. OneLight's post in Why is Christianity so focused on Sin? was marked as the answer
The bible is about the reconciliation of man and God.  Man broke the relationship with his Creator when he decided to break Gods commandment to not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, which is what sin is - the breaking of Gods commandments.  That's the beginning of the story.
Throughout history, man continued to sin, and to cover his sins a blood covenant was required, for life is in the blood.  Still, man continued to sin and was getting nowhere in their relationship with God, so God, in his loving mercy, sent His Son Jesus to be the final sacrifice for mans sin. Jesus gave His life for us and whomever believes in Jesus and His sacrifice will be forgiven and have eternal life.  Once a person takes that step, they are indwelt with the Holy Spirit whom teaches them and creates a new creation in them, one who's heart is toward God and not self.
In this new creation, man no longer desires to sin, but to live as God would like them to live.  Sure, we make mistakes, but if we repent, turn away from our sins, He will forgive us.
What is pure love?  Pure love, the best I can describe, is a love without sin, so sin needs to be recognized and turned from.  Since sin separates us from God, sin is a focus, but not the only focus.  Mans heart, by nature, is sinful, and the natural man cannot live without sin.  History has proven that.
Here is some verses to meditate on.
    John 3:16-17
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
Matthew 1:21 - about the birth of Jesus
And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.
Luke 10:27 - the greatest two commandments
So he answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’”
Galatians 5:16-26 - the difference between the natural man (flesh) and the new creation (living in the Spirit)
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.  For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.  If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

So you see, sin is the reason why our relationship with God was broken.  If we ignore the reason, we are bound to repeat it and remain forever lost.  Why is that important?  Sinfulness in man cannot be allowed to live forever with God for He is a righteous God.  We think of love from our natural sinful lives, not understanding what true love is.  Only God can give us true love.  In order to share in what God has to give, we need to accept Jesus and His Spirit.  We cannot have one without the other.
The the question is, which of the religions you mentioned are you going to follow?
  9. OneLight's post in Holy Spirit help was marked as the answer
    Welcome to Worthy!
Please, look in the bible for your answers, not the internet.  The internet is full of false teaching from wolves claiming to be believers.   Even those who are believers post their personal beliefs that go against scripture.  I was told a very long time ago that if I needed an answer about anything God does, go to scripture first, and if I still had questions, ask someone I knew who is a true follower of His.  You have no idea who is behind the keyboard giving advice, which is even true with my reply.
I can tell you that if you are seeking God and the Holy Spirit, God will not allow any demon to enter your body as He is already with you.
I was not at the conference you were at and know nothing about the conference at all, so I cannot comment on what happened or what was taught.  All I can do is tell you to take what you heard there and look through scripture to see if what they said was the truth.  Again, if you need help, ask someone you know who lives the life of a Christian.  You will know if they follow Christ by their actions, how they live.
So you can have a better understanding, when you repented of your past life and asked for forgiveness from God, applying the reason Jesus died for us to your life, the Holy Spirit sealed you.  We can read about this in Ephesians 1:13-14
In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
If you wish to learn more about the Holy Spirit, I suggest you read John 14 through John 16.  He is our helper, teacher, comforter, and much more.  I wrote something for my son years ago about the Holy Spirit.  It is rather lengthy, so I will not post it unless you ask for it.
If this does not touch on your concerns, please be more specific.
  10. OneLight's post in "Whatever is done without faith is sin"? was marked as the answer
It is best to look at the context which this verse is spoken.  We can see how Paul is talking about eating/drinking and how it may make a weak brother or sister stumble.
    Romans 14:14-23
I know and am convinced by the Lord Jesus that there is nothing unclean of itself; but to him who considers anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean. Yet if your brother is grieved because of your food, you are no longer walking in love. Do not destroy with your food the one for whom Christ died. Therefore do not let your good be spoken of as evil; for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men.
Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another. Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All things indeed are pure, but it is evil for the man who eats with offense. It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak. Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin.
We are to consider our actions when we preform them, if it will cause someone to fall or not.  If someone thinks it is a sin to eat meat, but you eat meat before them, you are causing your brother to stumble as he will consider you a sinner and perhaps you were his example in Christ.

  12. OneLight's post in Would reading the Bible regularly be a "work"? was marked as the answer
Reading the bible is getting to know God better.  The closer we are to Him, the more we seek to know Him better.  AS a Christian, we have His Spirit in us, guiding us in this life.  If He is urging you to read more, then do so.  We are instructed not to grieve the Holy Spirit.  Saying this, one good act does not excuse the absence of another.
  13. OneLight's post in Who/what is the perfecter of our faith? was marked as the answer
We cannot do good works unless we have Christ, so both are correct.
    Ephesians 2:8-10
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
  14. OneLight's post in Question about Reformation and a divided church was marked as the answer
Every group, no matter what you call yourself, who accepts Christ as their savior and allows His Spirit to move in them, is of the same body.  Any division is created by someone believing another has deviated from scripture and refuses to follow them, resulting in them creating their own group.  Further division comes when the focus is placed on their differences and not on what they share in common that would result with receiving the ability to grow together.  Man has divided Christ Body due to allowing one of many personality traits that each of us have ... weaknesses of the flesh we allow to leak out into our hearts and minds.  There are as many reasons as there are denomination, including any form of the above mentioned RCC group structure.  We all can argue scripture until we are blue in teh face, but until there be an inner change, there will be no healing.
  15. OneLight's post in Is it a sin to lie? was marked as the answer
    Revelation 21:8

But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.
Making a practice to lie is a sin.
  16. OneLight's post in Judges 14:19-20 interpretation. Samson did good thing or bad? was marked as the answer
The answer is right above the verses you provided.

    Judges 14:12-18

Then Samson said to them, “Let me pose a riddle to you. If you can correctly solve and explain it to me within the seven days of the feast, then I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothing. But if you cannot explain it to me, then you shall give me thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothing.”

And they said to him, “Pose your riddle, that we may hear it.”

    So he said to them:

“Out of the eater came something to eat,
And out of the strong came something sweet.”
Now for three days they could not explain the riddle.

But it came to pass on the seventh day that they said to Samson’s wife, “Entice your husband, that he may explain the riddle to us, or else we will burn you and your father’s house with fire. Have you invited us in order to take what is ours? Is that not so?”

Then Samson’s wife wept on him, and said, “You only hate me! You do not love me! You have posed a riddle to the sons of my people, but you have not explained it to me.”

And he said to her, “Look, I have not explained it to my father or my mother; so should I explain it to you?” 17 Now she had wept on him the seven days while their feast lasted. And it happened on the seventh day that he told her, because she pressed him so much. Then she explained the riddle to the sons of her people. 18 So the men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down:

    “What is sweeter than honey?
And what is stronger than a lion?”
    And he said to them:

“If you had not plowed with my heifer,
You would not have solved my riddle!”
Seems like he was doing as the Lord moved him to do. Understand the culture of the time and it would help show you the answers.
  17. OneLight's post in Holy Spirit Baptism--Second work of Grace? was marked as the answer
Seems you like to eat steak!

Baptism of the Holy Spirit does not happen at conversion, as you thought.  Evidence of this is found in Acts 8:14-17 "Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit."

As for speaking in tongues being evidence of being baptized in the Holy Spirit, many take this idea from Acts 2:4 (And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.) and Acts 19:6 (And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.) where it is written that after receiving the Holy Spirit, they spoke in tongues.  Personal experience is that after receiving the Holy Spirit, I resisted speaking in tongues for some time. That did not mean that I did not receive the Holy Spirit, but my flesh resisted.

In my studies, I have found that there are three uses for tongues.  One is a prayer language where the Holy Spirit prays for you, Romans 8:26 (Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.).  The second is when you receive the ability top speak in another worldly language, Acts 2:4 (And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.), and the third is when you give a message to the body and an interpreter is needed, 1 Corinthians 14, especially in verses 27-28 "If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret. But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God." .

    Hope this helps.
