  1. Somewhere down the road we have equated patriotism and Christian piety to being synonymous. I would rather see the president ignore the holiday than hypocritically play the role and add to the deception. I learned during the last election cycle we would have been better off to have hired a mormon, even though everyone else was checking the religion box as Christian.
  2. You must have been operating by the old Roman calendar.....lol
  3. Good writing and a great thought...Worry (fear) slanders every promise in the word of God...It is anti-faith, and its wave of thoughts that come rushing at you are most often an attack perpetrated by the master of deception himself....Satan
  4. Psalms 92:10 (NKJV) But my horn You have exalted like a wild ox; I have been anointed with fresh oil. There is perennial freshness in God. It must anger and disappoint God when we express boredom or backslide into the stagnation of disinterest. From childhood to old age we may look at the same old and familiar landscape of our little town of Belhaven, but we should always find something fresh and new to captivate the eye or peek the curiosity. Every physical age, every season in life, and every challenge to our outlook should be met with the expectation of seeing what God is saying or about to do if we participate. Every morning we ought to bend our heads looking for that fresh anointing. By the Father
  5. I really didn'tthink there was anything allthatstrange here....seems logical to me
  6. You asked what did Jesus mean when He said, not what does this mean to you. Your comment that I'm "uncommitted" makes it sound as if I'm here just playing church. I answered your question and you come back and say I basically don't care what Jesus accomplished on the Cross, it means nothing to me. When I respond to a post, I respond to what is posted. I don't try to read between the lines. Please forgive me, I have offended you. That is not the intent of my thread.
  7. Explain that. I would encourage you to follow the thread and you will see evidence hopefully that what a person believes or understands abut that declaration from the cross become their practical theology. Many believe that we have to continually return to the cross to ask for forgiveness and many believe he died once for all sin, past, present. This often determines their belief about the security of a believer, how they view the Lord's Supper, and their work ethic in the Kingdom. As people express themselves if they are transparent they will tell you what they understand or feel about that one phrase..."It is Finished" From my answer to your post, what have you learned about my faith? Based on your prior post and your response I would suggest it means you are uncommitted and you probably don't think it is that significant what it meant...I don't say that in judgment but honoring your question with my best answer on the three possible options you offer and your lack of identifying your belief. You didn't ask anyone to identify their belief. You asked, "What does this mean?" "What does this mean?" Is the question that ask you to identify your belief? I don't mean to be abrupt but don't be so cagey. Nobody is on a witness stand

  10. I believe what we see even God demonstrate is that love for His is unconditional but His forgiveness is conditional. The same as we have for our children we love them regardless of where they are at or sometimes regardless of how they respond to us. But we will not allow breaches in the relationship to go unaddressed or unresolved. For instance Matthew 18 the chapter suggest that forgiveness is conditional to repentance, the steps of confrontation are taken with the goal of restoration in focus.
  11. I am asking in your understanding what did Jesus mean when He said, "It is Finished"?
  12. Fresh off the newstands on the week that many call holy, TIME magazine does an article on Rob Bell's book "Love Wins". Did you read it and what is the impression that you got from your read?
  13. So many read the Biblical narrative too casually and without thorough examination. When Jesus declared from the cross, "It is finished"...what do you think he was declaring and what does that mean practically in my faith and practice? Is there a clue in the original language? Is the sacramental understanding of many in conflict with His declaration. Was He announcing that His earthly ministry was accomplished or was He announcing the debt paid and no further sacrifice or merit needed? Did He make a downpayment or pay the bill?
  14. She is talking about King David...but I guess she could be talking about me too
  15. I think we need to remember that Jesus was not apprehended and crucifoed against His will...Scripture says He laid down His life....therefore it is something to be celebrated....it was not defeat but victory....and the demonstration of love and submission.
  16. The past 2 winters in my part of the world have been colder than normal and the snowfall has doubled from past yearly totals. It is suspicious that Al Gore has disappeared from the radar. I commented to this fact frequently this past cold season to some of my more liberal friends about my observations. I was quickly educated that actually colder winters are part of the affect of global warming. How do you respond to people that have these kind answers ready for you?
  17. Last year Halloween landed on Sunday...now this year Earth Day is on Good Friday...."Burn the Calendar".....Oh yeah that is another thread...lol
  18. Many passages taken at face value seem to command us to forgive freely and openly without requirement? Some passages like Matthew 18 however seem to suggest that confrontation and a willingness to see their error means we grant forgiveness when they see their need. What is your take on forgiveness, is it conditional or unconditional among the body of Christ?
  19. I have always surmised that prayer is not so much petitioning as it is discovery....I inform God of nothing and am unqualified to advise Him...But in prayer I align my desires with His will. Often while I am praying I am discovering my limited scope and seemingly hopeless bent to serving my own desires. In voicing those things He is able to let me hear my heart and hopefully correct with the aid of the Holy Spirit.
  20. Why does having a near death experience have to be about proof or faith? Jesus raised people from the dead. What do you suppose happened to them in between death and being brought back? ...and they didn't testify to having seen a thing during their death event...we have to be careful with extrabiblical.
  21. The so called "near death experience" calls into question God's sovereignty... Did God call up the wrong number?.....opps!....mistake go back. Or, does God favors some to the point that He gives them a sneak peek? If we are suppose to be developing faith (TRUST), why do we need proof of an afterlife? Isn't His promise good enough. Also neither the place of eternal punishment or eternal reward are in place yet according to a read of Revelation. So what is actually available for preview if someone should "crossover"?
  22. Yes, I do remember you.....amd I am glad to see that you have stayed connected to Worthy Boards...I pray your faithfulness to stick with it has been rewarding to you. woohoo! i feel special! it's worth it ddavid... there've been times when i've gotten so fed up that i've had to take vacations from worthy, but then i decided to quit following the news, quit following politics, and since then, i can come here and hardly ever get my blood pressure up LOL. in the meantime, i've had.... let's see, you have been gone three years? well, then during that time i've had two more grandsons, have another one on the way, and if my other daughter has anything to say about it, she'll soon be pregnant again too. and i lost a cat. two, actually, but recently i lost the one that had been my.... do i dare call a cat my soul mate? LOL, if animals can be soulmates, this one was. i'd raised him for 18 years, and i had to have him put down on feb. 1. i know it's not the same as losing a mother, and i'm terribly sorry for your loss. but i think it helps me relate, because i'd never lost anyone i was really close to before, until my cat. two months later and last night i still cried myself to sleep over him. and i've taken up making jewelry, not just as a hobby this time, but to sell. i quit smoking on july 21, 2009, and on that date this year i will, for the 2nd time, commemorate the anniversary of quitting by reading thru the biblie in 90 days. (want to join me?) so those are the highlights of my life. i'm glad to see you back! Proud of your accomplishments and your commitment and your preseverance....Be happy to read thru the Bible in 90 days...but I don't smoke....How about quitting hamburgers or something.....lol....I had one of those for lunch at Hardees
  23. I know much of this presentation is borrowed from several sources, but it has so much become a part of my renewed thinking that I can't be sure how much of it is borrowed. As always the Scripture should force the conclusions. So peruse it and discern the truth where it is present. God is sovereign and can choose to answer any prayer He sees fit. But Scripture clearly indicates that God does not listen to or answer every prayer. In fact, Scripture gives at least fifteen reasons for unanswered prayer. God does not answer the prayer of those: 1. Who have personal and selfish motives. (James 4:3). 2. Who regard iniquity in their hearts. (Psalm 66:18). 3. Who remain in sin. (Isaiah 59:2, John 9:31). 4. Who offer unworthy service to God. (Malachi 1:7) 5. Who forsake God. (Jeremiah 14:10-12). 6. Who reject God's call. (Proverbs 1:24-25, 28). 7. Who will not heed God's law. (Proverbs 28:9, Zechariah 7:11-13). 8. Who turn a deaf ear to the cry of the poor. (Proverbs 21:13). 9. Who are violent. (Isaiah 1:15; see also 59:2-3). 10. Who worship idols. (Jeremiah 11:11-14; see also Ezekiel 8:15-18). 11. Who have no faith. (James 1:6-7). 12. Who are living in hypocrisy. (Luke 12:1). 13. Who are proud of heart. (James 4:6; 1 Peter 5:5). 14. Who are self-righteous. (Luke 18:11-14). 15. Who mistreat God's people. (Psalm 18:40-41, Micah 3:2-4).
