If you work with kids or money now in today's climate you need background checks on everyone paid or volunteer. But if we are effectively about the redemptive work of Christ we are dealing with people with past history. We tell them they are forgiven and restored. But, conventional wisdom says you might be saved, forgiven by God, but you will never hold a position in our church. What do you think?

It's just that in today's world you can't be too careful.

There are also those in the congregation that demand one be done for those who are dealing with their children, which is the parent protecting their child. These check usually only go back 10 years, at best.

But, conventional wisdom says you might be saved, forgiven by God, but you will never hold a position in our church. What do you think? Hi David: I'm not sure if I would call it conventional wisdom or Godly wisdom??? The fact is we are not in heaven, we are on earth and we as a church can't be so heavenly bound that we become naive to the fact that Satan is out walking the earth seeking whom he may devour. However, this is precisely why we as the church must rely on the wisdom of God and not lean towards our own understanding. I don't think we should throw the baby out with the bath water so to speak. I think we should see each case individually and take it to God and ask for his heart and wisdom on the matter. We do need to be cautious but caution should not over ride the leading of the spirit. We need to consult God and ask him for discernment so that we can recognize his sheep from the wolves in sheep clothing. If we don't recognize the voice and leading of God, then we end up using the world's standards and regulations to govern things. We must be led by God at ALL times. "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." Romans 8:
