Strife

"An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire. A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends."

Proverbs 16:27

Gossip is truth or non-truth shared with a third party or the public that attempts to assassinate someone's character. It is often a counterfeit intimacy that we partipate in with other people, rather than share our own frailties with others we share the faults of others. It is perverted way we build our own self-esteem by destroying the esteem of our victims. It is the exact opposite of being a peacemakers the requirement of the kingdom

The Bible is full of warnings and descriptions of the harm of gossip. Everyone has done it - we've all divulged details we should have kept to ourselves. Some people view 'some' gossip as being harmless - I do not think there is any such thing as 'harmless' gossip. It's been said that those who listen to gossip are as guilty as those who gossip. I pray each day not to carry or listen to gossip. I know of no one who hasn't at some time in their lives been harmed by loose lips... We never know when we are going to say things that will needlessly hurt others. I agree with David's comments about why people gossip. Blessings to you.

Romans 1:29

They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips...

# Proverbs 11:13

A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret.

Proverbs 11:12-14 (in Context) Proverbs 11 (Whole Chapter)

# Proverbs 16:28

A perverse man stirs up dissension, and a gossip separates close friends.

Proverbs 16:27-29 (in Context) Proverbs 16 (Whole Chapter)

# Proverbs 18:8

The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to a man's inmost parts.

Proverbs 18:7-9 (in Context) Proverbs 18 (Whole Chapter)

# Proverbs 20:19

A gossip betrays a confidence; so avoid a man who talks too much.

Without wood a fire goes out; without gossip a quarrel dies down.

Gossip is talking about someone when they are not there.

Gossip is also the entertaining or listening to demeaning conversation intended to speak negatively of someone not present. Whe you gossip you destroy at least three individuals with your sin 1)(victim) of your tale 2) The person you are telling it to 3) Yourself

I don't know how many times I've heard people defend their gossip by saying, 'But it's true!' As if truth can never be gossip. There are lots of things that are true that have no good reason being told to others.

Gossip is what we do during every election. Instead of conversation about issues, we converse about accusations and inuendos that have little or no foundation.

Whether something is true or false, if it is spread in such a way as to undermine a person's character or position, whether intentionally for that purpose or not, it is gossip.

Ok, so would the way people have talked about Barack Obama or politicians on here count as gossip as well? What if it's about someone that is doing something wrong. "I saw him to this terrible thing while no one was watching." Is that gossip as well?
