Just wondering if anyone had any memories of any specific thing your dad said, did, or somethng you learned from him that they'd like to share?

There's a lot I've learned from mine, and a lot of things he's said and done, but I'll try to think of one specific thing and come back with it in a little while.

I can't think of just one specific one, because there's been so many. But here's one for now anyway.

When dad was seriously injured (almost killed), in a car wreck, the entire time he was in the hospital after coming out of ICU, and was awake, he never, ever, EVER seemed to be afraid or depressed or worried. He was paralyzed from the neck down and was being told he'd never be able to move again or get to live at home, and his attitude the whole time was amazing to the point of almost being shocking.

One down...... :)

this is the first year i have no father to send a card to. but if i could, this is what i would say...

dad, thank you for having loved my mother... for having married her, and for having been faithful to her for nearly sixty years. thank you for having loved me enough to always want the best for me, for always making sure my needs, and many of my wants, were met. thank you for the thousands of prayers you must have said for me for 39 years.

thank you for having surrounded yourself with such close friends who were all dedicated christians... i had many sets of godly "parents" because of whom you chose to associate with. i grew up friends with the children of your friends, and never in my early years did i even consider that there was any other way of life. and when i grew older and wandered away from all that i'd been taught, scripture fulfilled itself... raise up a child in the way he should go, and when he's old, he will return to it. i returned dad... i may never have if it hadn't been for the fact that you built your life, your faith, and your family, on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ.

i love you dad.

LadyC, I'm sorry you no longer have your dad with you here, but I know he's having the best father's day of all today, with his Heavenly Father! :)

My dad is 79 now, and I still can't bear to think about having him leave. But, I know when the time comes God will give the strength and comfort needed.

LadyC... what a Beautiful tribute to your Dad.

I also have no Father's Day card to send... My Dad died in 1990.

I remember the last Father's Day card I bought for him, I knew it was going to be the last one because they had only given him 6 months to live (he lived for 3 months)... so it was a difficult time finding just the right one for him.

We put everything into those last days with him... and I thank God for restoration and even for the times when we laughed in the face of what we knew would be out of our control.

He and I use to sing "You are my sunshine".... and that is such a fond memory for me. And as silly as this sounds.... I love ketchup on scrambled eggs because that is how my Dad use to eat them. :)

I miss him today.

Dad's not been with me now for the better part of 13 years. So Father's Day is always sort of strange anymore.

He was a good man, but a hard man. Very demanding of me almost to the point of "perfect wasn't good enough". Had many vices too. Never really lived out a Christian example, but had signed a statement of faith in a Gideon's New Testament in '51 when he went to Korea in the war.

I do remember that he was there for many of the things that were important to me (graduation, band concerts, etc.). But that's about all. And I think some of those things he did out of a sense of "obligation" rather than really being supportive.

Don't get me wrong...I loved my dad, but when I look back I hope for my sake I don't become like him.

I'm sad for all of you who no longer have your dad with you. Memories are precious.

Well, I'm a day late for a "Father's Day" note.

My dad went to be with the Lord in March of 2000. He left a big hole in my heart! But I'm glad to know where he is and that I will see him again. He was faithful husband to my mom for nearly 50 years. took care of her when she could not care for herself. He was also a wonderful and loving dad who taught us and showed us what it was to love the Lord.

Years ago I gave him a little plaque that is the shape of the state of Texas and has this poem engraved on it:

Of all my western heroes,

and idols of my youth;

the ones who stood for honesty,

loyalty and truth.

There stands a man among them,

much taller than the rest;

Of all who stole my heart away

I love my dad the best.

I am one of the fortunate who found a lifemate that measured up to my dad!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
