Would you feel this way if Obama was white? Honestly, I get the exact opposite vibe from this man. Well, I don't get 'evil vibes' from the President either but...you really should understand that most Americans don't care about his race. I don't see a black man on t.v....I just see the President and I'm sure that's the case of most people. You've only to look back to the Clinton years to know that conservatives beat up on him constantly too. And I must point out that many, many people pointed to GWB as the A/C; and Hitler for good measure. The political landscape in America is not for the faint hearted. well as you know i'm not like most Americans. I do care about his race. One of my very good balck friends stated" that ****** is gonna burn in Hell. I might add my friend is the pastor of a large black pentecostal church. There are a lot of blacks that cannot stand Obama. This was the comment above I was referring to - did he not write this? Now he didn't say "problem" so I shouldn't have used that word - but he "cares" about his race... why does he care if he doesn't have an issue with it? And then the same person interjects a comment about having "black friends" - how does that work? If you have a problem with someone's race - why would you have friends of that race? To me, that seems like a contradiction of terms. I have a very hard time seeing someone who admits to having an issue with race having friends of that race. He may have an acquaintance of that race, but a 'friend'?? I don't think the comment was judgmental at all. I simply do not understand how to reconcile those two divergent comments. And you are absolutely right, Blind. We do not know someone's heart. None of us. the things is, though, Believer, that when he said he does care about race, you took it to mean he is racist and you believed it. but when he said he has black friends, you didn't believe it. why believe one (which was not blatantly stated) above another (which was blatantly stated)? see what i'm saying? you interpreted his comment to mean something that it may or may not have meant. i would say that it didn't mean he is prejudice because of the statement he also made about having black friends. i don't know what he meant by his words. but i think we should give him a chance to explain them, don't you think? words on a page don't always come across as the correct meaning of the heart. Yes, I am more than willing to admit that I do not understand the two totally different statements... If someone says that they care about race and then says they have friends of that race - I'm confused. I do understand what you are saying - I just do not understand the two totally diametrically opposed statements. They are, in my opinion, a contradiction. It's very confusing. I don't think he's been discouraged from further explaining himself and my original comment was... I have a hard time seeing you with any black friend, by the way.... And I do have a real hard time seeing that if, in his testimony he says "I'm not like most Americans. I do care about his race.". What is that supposed to mean? I was instantly judged as committing a sin as evil as racism for stating that I have a hard time seeing this poster with any black friends... "I don't care about" is a synonomous expression to, "It doesn't matter to me." I take his words to mean, "It doesn't matter to me what his race is." I am personally persuaded that majority of his votes where based on the fact that he is a black man (after all what proven track record did he have?) That a majority of the people that voted for him didn't care much beyond his race. Their main concern was he was an articulate black man that promised "changed they could believe in" and a majority of uninformed (I dare not say ignorant) non-white voters who probably have never voted before voted solely because of the color of his skin. Yes, I do care, because it was used to get him elected AND because if anyone said anything about him they were instantly labeled a racist. I care because his race doesn't qualify him anymore than it disqualifies him . . . but it was still the reason way too many people (who aren't qualified to cast an intelligent vote) voted for him. . I think he just said things that resonated with people who for so long had felt disenfranchised. I do not believe his skin color got him to the White House.
