Whoopi Loses Slim-Fast Job Over Bush Bash: July 14, 2004

Vulgarity-prone comedienne Whoopi Goldberg has lost her job as a spokeswoman for Slim-Fast diet products after customers expressed their outrage over her Bush-bashing routine during a Kerry-Edwards fund-raiser last Thursday where she compared President Bush to her genitals.

"Ads featuring Ms. Goldberg will no longer be on the air," Slim-Fast General Manager Terry Olson said in a statement, according to Reuters.

In marked contrast to Sen. Kerry, who boasted that night that Goldberg and other performers represented the "heart and soul of America," Olson apologized to customers for Goldberg's remarks.

While Kerry and Sen. Edwards haven't personally addressed the controversy, Edwards' wife, Elizabeth, defended Goldberg the next day, telling a reporter:

"A lot of people are going to be angry [at Bush] - there's a lot to be angry about. It's a free country and people are going to express that anger."

A spokesman for Goldberg declined to comment on Slim-Fast's decision to terminate her.

i guess you could say i boycott carls jr... i think their burgers taste like shoe leather, so i would rather go further up the street to buy my fast food! i haven't eaten carl's jr. in well over a year! (and hopefully never will again either!)

Yep, she lost her job with them because of her lack of decorum and good sense.

Smart businesses have an image they like to project. When their spokesperson tarnishes that image at a well publicized LW Bush bashing party by public drunkeness and lewdness they deserve to be canned. :oww:

Would you want someone possessing those traits hawking your products and representing your company? Not if you had an ounce of business sense.

Undoubtedly, the reason they canned her was out of concern for lost business.

Somebody else who made similar indiscretions, albeit without the same level of vulgarity, was Rosie O'Donuts ..er um O'Donnell. K-Mart, I believe, gave her the boot. Not that Rosie or Whoopie are losing any sleep over this, but it does go to show what can come from a loose mouth.

Have you ever seen Whoopie live? She has a gutter mouth. Always did have and always will have.

i rented one of her first stand up comedy videos.... me and my first husband were not one to get offended easily, but she was so disgusting that we turned it off and didn't finish it. i believe the skit that really sickened us was the abortion skit.

Yeah well that's just a big cop-out and excuse for her own lewd indiscretions.

I have an idea for the liberals. Why don't they just do away with the old saying "the devil made me do it" and adopt a new one stating "the republicans made me do it". Heaven knows the Republicans are to blame for everything according to them, so why not?
