Christian terminologies

I wasn't raised as a Christian. I didn't become a Christian until I was in my late teens.

As a result, there are a slew of Christian terminologies I don't understand.

Here they are below:

Glory (really don't understand this at all.....)

Righteousness (clear-as-mud)

Holy (to me this has two definitions; one in reference to Christians, as being set apart from the world; the 2nd in regards to God.......describing him as being pure, holy, perfect, etc.)

Mercy, grace (the concepts are so similar I don't understand what the differences between the two are)

I don't understand the concept of worship and all the various terminologies that correlate with it (extol, exalt, etc.)

I know it has to do with loving God, but to my knowledge there is more to worship than just loving God.

I could be dead wrong on the last part....

In your introduction thread - you said that none of the churches in your area reflected your beliefs and vice-versa. Could you elaborate on what you believe as a Christian and then we can get some help with these definitions you are wondering about...

Glory -

Hebrew- kabad (kaw-bad')

heavy, weighty, honor

This study is on the Hebrew word kabad, pronounced kaw-bad' or kaw-bed'. Kabad means heavy and weighty both in a positive and a negative sense. Kabad is the root word for the Hebrew word glory kawbowd; showing us that the Almighty's glory carries weight. This is why many who experience the glory or weight of God, fall under the power of His presence.

Righteousness -

The Hebrew word for righteousness is Tsedaqah.Tsedaqah is a noun in the feminine form; the masculine form of the word is tsedeq. To most scholars, the words are interchangeable. However, A. Jepsen contends that tsedeq means, "right order" and that tsedaqah is the idea of "human well being" or "right behavior." Since it more often used interchangeably, that is how it is taken in this paper. However, the passages that were taken into account for this paper used tsedaqah only. The stem attached to Tsedaqah is a verb (קרצ), which means "to be righteous," "to be just," to "be in the right," or "to be straight." To most commentators, "to be straight" appears to be the most accurate definition. In later Jewish writings, tsedaqah is most often used as a term of ethical conduct.

All three versions of the word (the stem, the feminine form, and the masculine form) have a variety of ways in which they are applied. For example, in Isaiah 46:12 and in Micah 7:9 it means "deliverance." Isaiah 5:23 defines it as "right." In other Biblical books outside the eighth century prophets, tsedaqah is used as "vindication", "saving deeds", "saving help", "righteous help", "salvation", "equity", "uprightness"

Holy -

The word "holy" is in Hebrew "kadosh"

Brown, Driver and Briggs (BDB) list the meaning of the word as "separation" or "withdrawal," and the denominative verb[1] qadash, "to be set apart, consecrated." The dictionary by Koehler and Baumgartner (KBL) list the various meanings as "to be holy, withheld from profane use, to be treated with special care, fallen to the sanctuary's share." Jastrow offers evidence from later Hebrew usage (post-biblical and Rabbinic) for the straightforward meanings of "be/become pure, holy, sacred."

Glory (really don't understand this at all)

Glory

And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.

His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;

And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.

And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:

I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Revelation 1:13-18

Glory

And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

Revelation 20:11

Glory

And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.

Revelation 22:5

.... Righteousness (clear-as-mud)

His Righteousness

Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

1 Peter 1:18-19

Our Righteousness

But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

Isaiah 64:6

Holy (to me this has two definitions; one in reference to Christians, as being set apart from the world; the 2nd in regards to God.......describing him as being pure, holy, perfect, etc.)

Holy

Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.

Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:

And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

Isaiah 6:5-8

Holy Holy

See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.

For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever.

Deuteronomy 32:39-40

Holy Holy Holy

And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

Isaiah 6:3-4

Is The Name Of My God

Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.

Jeremiah 15:16

I Love You Jesus

Mercy, grace (the concepts are so similar I don't understand what the differences between the two are)

Mercy

This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.

It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:21-23

Grace

The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.

Jeremiah 31:3

Grace

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 12:2

Grace

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 3:16-18

I don't understand the concept of worship and all the various terminologies that correlate with it (extol, exalt, etc.).... I know it has to do with loving God, but to my knowledge there is more to worship than just loving God.... I could be dead wrong on the last part

Worthy

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Revelation 4:11

Oh So Worthy

And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;

Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.

And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.

Grace - giving us what we don't deserve (salvation). As humans and sinners, we don't deserve to be loved and forgiven by God; to be given eternal life with Him. He gives it to us because He wants to.

Mercy - not giving us what we do deserve (eternal damnation.) As sinners, we do deserve to be punished and sent to eternal torment, but God has decided to forgive us and make us His children. All we have to do is accept it.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
