I just thought about this while responding to another topic. Many, many years ago when I was in my early teens I visited a church that had a "Rapture Tube." I have often wondered if this is just an architectural element (the one I saw was pretty awesome to look at) or do some people actually believe it serves some "real" function? I've told Hubby about it and he thinks I'm nuts. I have always kinda just assumed it was a bit of church design for Christians with a sense of humor.

I'm not trying to be offensive to anyone out there, I'm just curious. I'd appreciate any insight anyone might have on this. Thanks!

So do they all stand underneath the chimney to be" beamed up " ????? :emot-pray:

It reminds me of the tube on a submarine :)

Hmm... I had a funny comment, but I think I lost it. It went down the Tubes.

Yeah, it's a hilarious notion, isn't it? :) I did a web search on it and found nothing at all, other than the previously mentioned blog entry. The tube in the church I visited was actually made of glass. The whole thing. As I said, it was a very impressive sight to behold. Still, I have no idea what it's actual purpose is. I just always kinda though it was a tongue-in-cheek thing. But that's a lot of money to spend on an architectural detail just for an inside joke! I don't know. I've only ever seen the one I saw years ago and then the the one in the blog photo. Obviously they aren't all that common. I sure wish someone who goes to a church with one of these things would chime in here and explain its purpose! :emot-pray:
