Many, many years ago when I was in my early teens I visited a church that had a "Rapture Tube." I have often wondered if this is just an architectural element (the one I saw was pretty awesome to look at) or do some people actually believe it serves some "real" function? I've told Hubby about it and he thinks I'm nuts. I have always kinda just assumed it was a bit of church design for Christians with a sense of humor. I'm not trying to be offensive to anyone out there, I'm just curious. I'd appreciate any insight anyone might have on this. Thanks!

I did a web search on it and found nothing at all, other than the previously mentioned blog entry. The tube in the church I visited was actually made of glass. The whole thing. As I said, it was a very impressive sight to behold. Still, I have no idea what it's actual purpose is. I just always kinda though it was a tongue-in-cheek thing. But that's a lot of money to spend on an architectural detail just for an inside joke! I don't know. I've only ever seen the one I saw years ago and then the the one in the blog photo. Obviously they aren't all that common. I sure wish someone who goes to a church with one of these things would chime in here and explain its purpose!
