IF YOU HAVE MESSED UP, THERE'S STILL HOPE- 1- MOSES

One day, after Moses had grown up, he went out to where his own people were and watched them at their hard labor. He saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his own people. Glancing this way and that and seeing no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. The next day he went out and saw two Hebrews fighting. He asked the one in the wrong, "Why are you hitting your fellow Hebrew?" The man said, "Who made you ruler and judge over us? Are you thinking of killing me as you killed the Egyptian?" Then Moses was afraid and thought, "What I did must have become known."

When Pharaoh heard of this, he tried to kill Moses, but Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in Midian, where he sat down by a well. Now a priest of Midian had seven daughters, and they came to draw water and fill the troughs to water their father's flock. Some shepherds came along and drove them away, but Moses got up and came to their rescue and watered their flock. When the girls returned to Reuel their father, he asked them, "Why have you returned so early today?" They answered, "An Egyptian rescued us from the shepherds. He even drew water for us and watered the flock." "And where is he?" he asked his daughters. "Why did you leave him? Invite him to have something to eat." Moses agreed to stay with the man, who gave his daughter Zipporah to Moses in marriage. Zipporah gave birth to a son, and Moses named him Gershom, saying, "I have become an alien in a foreign land." (Exodus 2:11-22)(NIV)

Overconfidence, youthful zeal, crazy adventuring...call it whatever you will, but Moses lost much because of it. The comforts of the Egyptian palace, the honor and glory that came with being Pharaoh's daughter's son and much more. Was it a mistake or was that the path in which God wanted to mould him into being his servant? It could have happened differently, but God chose to use Moses' indiscretion to change his personality. No doubt there were blessings, like getting married and having children, but life in Midian must have been lack-luster compared to the royalty of Egypt. For the next 40 years Moses was in God's school of preparation for a ministry that would last another 40 years. And what a ministry that turned out to be.

IF YOU HAVE MESSED UP, THERE'S STILL HOPE- 2- JACOB

Then Rebekah took the best clothes of Esau her older son, which she had in the house, and put them on her younger son Jacob. She also covered his hands and the smooth part of his neck with the goatskins. Then she handed to her son Jacob the tasty food and the bread she had made. He went to his father and said, "My father." "Yes, my son," he answered. "Who is it?" Jacob said to his father, "I am Esau your firstborn. I have done as you told me. Please sit up and eat some of my game so that you may give me your blessing." (Genesis 27:15-19)

This true story is that of mother and younger son team deceiving the father and elder son. (If you are not familiar with the whole story read Genesis Ch.27). Jacob got blessed by his father by deceiving him following his mother's instructions. She was determined to fulfill God's plans her own way and finally had to send her son away from home because the elder son Esau sought to kill Jacob for stealing his blessings. Jacob landed up in his uncle's house where he stayed for the next 20 years. He fell into the hands of Laban, his uncle who was a bigger deceiver than himself. 20 years later, on God's directing him, he returned to his home land and had an encounter with God, wrestling with God's angel and God changed his name from Jacob to Israel. He fulfilled his vows and was blessed by God abundantly. If you deceive others and do not repent, the deception will come back to you in some way or the other; that's for sure. But there's always hope because the God who changed Jacob to Israel still lives. SO IF YOU HAVE MESSED UP THERE'S STILL HOPE. REMEMBER, GOD CAN TURN YOUR FAILURES INTO SUCCESS.

IF YOU HAVE MESSED UP, THERE'S STILL HOPE-3-DAVID

In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king's men and the whole Israelite army. They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained in Jerusalem. One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful, and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, "Isn't this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite?" Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her. (She had purified herself from her uncleanness.) Then she went back home. The woman conceived and sent word to David, saying, "I am pregnant." So David sent this word to Joab: "Send me Uriah the Hittite." And Joab sent him to David. When Uriah came to him, David asked him how Joab was, how the soldiers were and how the war was going. Then David said to Uriah, "Go down to your house and wash your feet." So Uriah left the palace, and a gift from the king was sent after him. But Uriah slept at the entrance to the palace with all his master's servants and did not go down to his house. When David was told, "Uriah did not go home," he asked him, "Haven't you just come from a distance? Why didn't you go home?" Uriah said to David, "The ark and Israel and Judah are staying in tents, and my master Joab and my lord's men are camped in the open fields. How could I go to my house to eat and drink and lie with my wife? As surely as you live, I will not do such a thing!" Then David said to him, "Stay here one more day, and tomorrow I will send you back." So Uriah remained in Jerusalem that day and the next. At David's invitation, he ate and drank with him, and David made him drunk. But in the evening Uriah went out to sleep on his mat among his master's servants; he did not go home. In the morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it with Uriah. In it he wrote, "Put Uriah in the front line where the fighting is fiercest. Then withdraw from him so he will be struck down and die." So while Joab had the city under siege, he put Uriah at a place where he knew the strongest defenders were. When the men of the city came out and fought against Joab, some of the men in David's army fell; moreover, Uriah the Hittite died. (2 Samuel 11:1-17)

The sins that King David had committed and the punishment for the same were announced to him by the prophet Nathan. He said, " You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own. You killed him with the sword of the Ammonites. Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own.' "This is what the LORD says: 'Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity upon you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will lie with your wives in broad daylight. You did it in secret, but I will do this thing in broad daylight before all Israel.' " Then David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the LORD." Nathan replied, "The LORD has taken away your sin. You are not going to die. But because by doing this you have made the enemies of the LORD show utter contempt, the son born to you will die.

The punishment was quite severe and David's son, born of Bathsheba died though David fasted for the child for 7 days. Later his own son Absalom turned against him. David repented of his sins and the Lord forgave him. Psalm 51 sung by David speaks of his repentant self. David cried to the Lord...

Have mercy on me....Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin....Cleanse me.....Create in me a pure heart....Restore to me the joy of your salvation...

Adultery, Murder & Despising The Lord. David learned from his mistakes and was blessed by the Lord later on.

Yes, there's hope for you and me, because we have a loving Father in heaven and a wonderful Savior.
