Trying to keep this non-controversial because I can't post on it if it gets moved...but what do you think? The Bible never says that Jesus wasn't married. People seem to be afraid of that idea though. What do you have to say?

if Jesus was married...that would make it real improtant for his disciples and others to know....which means we would have been told in the bible about it....another clue.....3 women went to his grave with annointing oils...none were his wife...why is this....it would have been her duty....he wasn't married.

Jesus was not married, and the Bible DOES say so.

Jesus was the Son of man. Absolutely perfect... the life He lived wasn't just good, it was the epitome of life. The best life it is possible for a human being to live. That is why we all know that we can aspire to be as much like Him as is possible through His grace. :il:

Paul, in writing about marriage, said that it is better to get married than to burn in lust. However, he also said that he wished everyone could stand to be celebate like him, because those who are married have to please their spouse, but those who remain unwed need only to please God!

Paul would never state that the best case scenario is something other than what Christ modeled for us.

(If I'm way off here, someone take a Bible and smack me repeatedly until I get the picture. )

I don't have any problem with Jesus being married. It's not a sin to have a wife.

Christ dedicated his life on earth to spreading the Gospel. In his mission he did not have time to take a wife. Nor did he have need to take a wife. He was not capable of sin so he did not need to take a wife to settle his sexual urges and keep from sinning. His companionship was that of his disciples and that of his Father. Again he WAS GOD. His bride is the church.

For once, I agree with Steve...

Think about it, it was expected that a Jewish man would be married by the age of thirty. If he wasn't, it was assumed that something was wrong with him and he was scorned. Jesus died when he was thirty-three. Jewish people would never really have respected a man who wasn't married at that age. It was just custom. Not to go all Da Vinci Code on you, but how do you know He wasn't married to Mary M? Just a thought

Another perspective - Biblical, of course:

The Lord Jesus is the Bridegroom (John 3:29). The church is the Bride of Christ (Rev. 21:9; 22:17). The Lord will marry us, the church, which is the corporate Bride of Christ. Therefore, what need was there for the Lord to have an earthly bride in his incarnation?

One more thing...

The reason why Christians especially dislike this particular lie, apart from the fact that we just plain love truth, is that it is a subtle insult to our Savior.

Given, it is VERY subtle.

You see, the idea that Christ was married takes away from His divinity. Think about it for a little while... if you know even just a smidge about what marriage is and what it meant to the Jews... and then you take into account that, while Christ became fully man, He was still always fully God, I'm sure you'll understand what I'm talking about.

Anything that would defame or "de-deify" the Lord in any way is a damnable heresy.

(At the same time, I'd like to say that I am NOT God... I don't know everything. )
