In a sense it is because when you accept Jesus it is the Holy Spirit that indwells you. If you turn from Christ to follow Allah or Buddha or any other false teaching you are turning against Christ and rejecting or casting out of your heart mind and soul, the Holy Spirit.

Can't get any plainer than that...

Israel is apostate from God, has been for over 2000 years. Yet they have always been accepted back when they have repented and left their idolatry. They have been estranged from their Father, but they have always been His children, and God says they always will be. That doesn't mean that they have not be punished and their blessings removed, scattered throughout the world to be persecuted by the Gentiles until the Second Coming and their acceptance of Christ as their Messiah. But, they have ALWAYS been His people, even if He has not always been their God. They are not lost forever because of their apostasy. All it takes is repentance, which always brings forgiveness and restoration. And since the First Advent of Christ, acceptance of Him as the Messiah. So it is for the TRUE CHURCH. The apostate church was never a part of the true Church, but a facsimile created by man (Satan) to deceive many into following another Jesus and another Gospel.

So true, Parker1, so true!

Could it be that the reason why most look at the word as belonging to the church is because this is a Christian site and we are discussing the church? When we read in scripture of the falling away, it is speaking of the body of Christ and His truth. Though the word has a wider range of usage, we are not so concerned about the falling away from a world system, political system or any other system.

I hope this isn't off topic but I have a question. I know of a minister, with several thousand followers, who closed his church and skipped that Sunday service, for the super bowl.

Where does he fit in this?
