where in the Bible is there even a church that is set up like todays church?

Probably nowhere. And that's the problem. Modern men seem to think they know better.

What I find interesting in this verse is the word "I". Paul says that he doesn't allow women to teach over a man. This isn't a command, it is Paul telling us how he ran the church.

Hmmm...

I've always been under the impression that Paul was a prophet of God...

And that Peter called his writings "Scripture", confirming their authority...

Which means that he speaks an inspired message from God, not his own opinions...

And the Bible is God's chosen instrument to convey the divine will to us....

And that he said somewhere else, "follow me as I follow Christ", meaning to follow his example.

Well, I guess there are a lot of women who violated the Scriptures then :x: - out there in different countries, sent out by Baptist, Nazarene, Pentecostal, Presbyterian and other missions

I thought the context of this discussion was about discerning God's will...

I didn't know that the pervasiveness of a practice was supposed to be proof of its corectness.

Also, I want to make sure that everyone understands I'm not saying women can't have a role in leadership, just that they cannot have roles in major leadership. It would be stupid for a man to lead up a women's ministry, thus a woman has to have some form of leadership within a church.

1Tim 2:11-12  Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

I am not trying to be argumentative...merely trying to search the truth. If you say that it's okay for women to be leaders as long as they aren't in the sole postion of leadership, doesn't that contradict what these verses say? These verses say women should be in silence at all times essentially. Help me out here????

She is not some women's activist, in fact she preaches about submission often.

How can she preach about submission, who is not herself submitting?

She is submitted to the authority that is above her.

1-Jesus had women disciples (Mark 15:40-41; Matt 27:55-56)...

2-The women stood beside Jesus at the cross (Matt 26:56)...

3-Jesus chose women evangelists to take the message of his

resurrection...

4-The angel entrusted to the women to tell the disciples (Mark 16:7)

5-Christ met the women first and told them to take the word of His

ressurection...

All of which, I suppose, would make them followers, not leaders.

Evangelism is not a position of leadership. It's an indicator of a faithful follower.

So the gifts of the Spirit are only for men?  Teaching is one of those gifts

Nope, I have never believed that. Like I have said in my other posts, women can lead a ministry for women. Or kids.

But not in a position where they have authority over men.

When does a boy become a man? So, a woman can teach a boy until he reaches a certain age and then she has no authority over him? Is this right?

She is submitted to the authority that is above her.

Does she consider the insipred Word of God to be an authority? (Maybe she doesn't. I know many preachers who don't.)

When does a boy become a man?

I don't know. I wouldn't be so dogmatic as to stipulate a certain fixed age.

But most churches have a point when the kids "graduate" from the youth ministry to the (for lack of a better term) "adult" ministry, don't they?

However, i do think it's okay for women to speak from the pulpit as long as their husband (if they have one) and pastor agree with it.

At my church, we sometimes have women speak from the pulpit. But it's for announcements, or sharing personal testimony, etc. Not as a preacher.

I think there is nothing wrong with a woman speaking from the pulpit in a preaching format...God has given some of them a great gift. As long as they aren't in authority, there is no problem.
