I am reminded of a Steve Taylor song:

"Now a grave-digger

Next you pull the trigger

What then?

Whatever happened to sin?'

Judge Veit ruled, according to multiple media reports, that because Canada allows abortions it reflects how “while many Canadians undoubtedly view abortion as a less than ideal solution to unprotected sex and unwanted pregnancy, they generally understand, accept and sympathize with the onerous demands pregnancy and childbirth exact from mothers, especially mothers without support.”

“Naturally, Canadians are grieved by an infant’s death, especially at the hands of the infant’s mother, but Canadians also grieve for the mother,” said Veit, who said that, while what Effert did was “very grave,” there were no aggravating factors.

The point is that because we sympathize with the inconvenience of having a child, it is beginning to become easier to sympathize with the disposal of a post-birth baby the same as a pre-birth baby.

Do you agree with the judge that freed her, or do you believe she should have been kept in prison?

Sounds like our lawmakers who were trying to decide when life begins a couple of years ago.

They even argued about older babies and when they were considered to have 'life'.

How can God stand us?

Abortion is murder.

Secular leftism is just another guise for Nazi style eugenics.

This is the logical end of the culture of death.

I was curious after reading the article nebula provided. Then I decided to do additional research, and found this more neutral reporting of the events:

http://www.edmontonsun.com/2011/09/09/baby-killer-katrina-effert-walks

In this news article from the Edmonton Sun, there is no mention of the judge's motivations regarding any pro-abortion law.

Instead, the news article cites several other canadian infanticide cases and their respective sentences which aligned with what the judge provided in the case in question.

I find it extremely interesting how spin can change the perspective of what are facts.

Just wondering if anybody here on this forum wept one tear for the child that was put to Death!

Really, did anyone cry when they read this news?

Dennis.

To be fair, she already served jail time (3 months) and the inmates apparently didn't treat her well either. ...

Good Post D-9  (+1 if I could)

Being an atheist, I am afraid I forgot Jesus warning not to rush to judgement:

Matthew 7

Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

If the woman had killed her 10 year old child, would you applaud the 3 month sentence and release?

If she had killed someone else's child, would you do the same?

What makes this baby's life so valueless to you?

"Of course it's tragic, BUT..."

"Of course the baby's life has value, BUT..."

All I'm hearing is that the value of life has taken a back seat to convenience.

We should value that child's life as God values our own. It is a tragedy that the baby's life was cut so short by the very person that was supposed to nurture and protect him. This person should be imprisoned and sterilized. A child is a person and should have the same protection under the law as any other person in society. It is a travesty of the justice system that the mother served so little time in prison.

At what age should a child reach before they are fully protected as a person? 2 years, 5 years, 10 years, 18 years? I can't believe we are asking that question. It wasn't too long ago that Scott Peterson was convicted of the murder of 2 people, why is Canada going backwards?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
