If so, they are highly unlikely to sell for that opening bid price of 99 cents.

Their are coins that can get a pretty price, I sold a 3 cents piece for apx 12K but is was excellent shape. I also found a Spanish Doubloon off the coast of Fl, which was listed in the 5K range back in the 60's, {it was stolen from me}. I when to a coin show in New Jersey back in the 80s and some Bozo was trying to sell the 1943 copper penny for 15K, he had a great story behind this coin, there were several people standing around and taking a really close look at it. I wave my hand over the coin and there was an instant snap as the coin jumped up and hit the Glass. I had a very powerful magnet with me. The would be seller of this coin was escorted out of the show to a local jail. ICL~~~Dennis

But coins from the Israel from Yeshuas time would be worth a huge price tag.

Big time. So if the coin is worn and only has half the details, it is worth way less then one with details. Mizzdy I'm going to get some!

Most of these coins are copper or bronze based and of low denomination, when you get to the silver and gold coins the price is much higher, but they are still to be had in abundance apart from rarities that either came from a little known mint, or were produced for a very short time....for example if the Emperor had a short reign less would be produced with his image. What gives even a common coin some value is 'CONDITION', and a $2.00 coin might be worth 100 times as much if found in an excellent state of preservation. There are many unscrupulous dealers in Israel who will sell fake higher value coins, especially silver 1 shekel pieces, and who will also charge far too high a price for some of the common coins....most of the coins you can purchase are very very worn, and as such have no real monetary value....but are fun to own I guess. And they don't cost much. I am adding some to my collection. As someone said, 2000 yr old coins would be very expensive if they were real. Coin scams are EVERYWHERE. Here in the UK and in other parts of Europe it's not unusual to come across them whilst digging, particularly if you live near a Roman road or settlement. Silver and gold coins are rare and valuabe but copper coins in mediocre condition can be bought very cheaply. There's a coin dealerip opposite the British Museum in London where they have (last time I went in that is) a bowl full of denarii which they sell for £2 each, and will give you arun down of what it is and roughly when it was minted. These thing are too common to be worth faking
