2Co 5:17 Wherefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: the old things are passed away; behold, they are become new.

This study is about us as New Creations in Messiah. I am endeavoring to show that we can see different aspects of us as New Creations in Messiah, in the creation of the world in Genesis 1.

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Here we will examine two things in this verse:

1. God is the initiator

2. God works from the inside out.

God is the initiator

God is the initiator of creation. Creation was His idea. It was His desire and good pleasure to create this universe. Likewise, in all of His dealings with man, God has always been the one to approach man. Man does not seek God, but rather God seeks us. In the Garden of Eden it was God who came looking for Adam after Adam had sinned by eating the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Gen. 3:9).

God came to Abraham to present him the offer of a covenant (Gen. 12:1-3; 17:1,2) God came to Moses with a plan to rescue the children of Israel from slavery in Egypt (Ex. 3:2-10).

It was God who said, "And let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them" (Exo 25:8). It was God who wanted to live among His people. He wants to be near those He loves.

Of course, it was God in human form, our blessed Messiah Yeshua who came to seek each of us to bring us to salvation and make each of children of our Heavenly Father, YHVH. As he said: Luk 19:10 For the Son of man came to seek and to save that which was lost. God has taken the initiative. The world's religions are based upon a search for the truth. The testimony of Scripture is that you do not have to go look for truth. Truth comes looking for you.

God works from the inside out.

Gen1:1 tells us that God created the Heavens and the earth. I see a lesson here given in the order that the Heavens and earth are mentioned. First the Heavens and then the earth. First the Spiritual, then the physical.

The word for Heavens is "Shammayim" in Hebrew. That word is a plural. It is always plural. There is no singular in Hebrew for the word Shammayim. Yet the word for Earth is "Eretz" and is always singular. There is more "Heavens" than there is "Earth." Likewise the word for God is "Elohim" a plural of intensity. It means "The great God." The word for man is "Adam," a singular. Just as the Heavens are infinitely greater than the earth, God is infinitely greater than man. There is more mercy in God than iniquity in man. There is more Love in God, than there is hate in the heart of man. There is more grace and forgiveness in God than there are sins to commit. You cannot "out sin" the grace of God. There is nothing you have done that puts you out of His reach.

The lessons of the Heavens and the Earth is that God works on the spiritual and then works on the natural. Beginning in Exodus 25, God sets the stage for the building of the Tabernacle (Mishkan), a house where He can come and dwell with His people. In verse 10 of chapter 25, He begins giving instructions on the Ark of The Covenant. From there He gives instructions for all of the various instruments used inside the Tabernacle. He then gives instructions for the outside of the Tabernacle. God begins on the inside and works to the outside.

Likewise in salvation, God begins in heart of man. He then begins the process of sanctification as the believer begins the daily deliverance of sinful habits and thoughts. One day we will each recieve a new body, free of sin, and sickness. We will finally see the culmination of the salvation bought for us by Yeshua on the cross.

Actually, God gives TWO sets of instructions regarding the Tabernacle. One was how to build the Tabernacle. This shows God approaching man. He also gives instruction regarding how the sacrifices and services would be performed. This shows how man is to approach God. It was expected that when Israel came before God with the Sacrifices, that they did so in faith and anticipation for the Ultimate Sacrifice to come. God approaching man is an act of grace. Man approaching God is a response of faith. "By grace are you saved, are you saved through faith, and this not of yourselves; it is a gift of God; not of works lest any man boast." (Eph. 2:8,9)

Gen 1:2 And the earth was waste and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep: and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters

There are three words to examine here.

1. Tohu - Waste

2. Bohu - Void

3. Khoshek - Darkness

We see here the three-fold state of man without God. "Tohu" literally means confusion, unreality, or chaos. "Bohu" for void, means empty, without purpose.

The word "Khoshek" literally means twisted. Another appropriate word might be perverted.

Regardless of what a sinner's life may look like on the outside, these things describe what God sees when He looks on their heart. The spiritual condition of a person without God cannot be interpreted in the light of experience, or appearance. They may appear to prosper and have the world by the tail, but to God they are poor, miserable, confused, perverted, and empty.

Tomorrow we will see that while the darkness is mentioned last in the list, it is the first thing that God deals with in creation, and likewise in us as His new Creation.

Until next time, Shalom Aleichem Chavarim.

Gen 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

Gen 1:4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

Gen 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.

Here we will talk about two things

1. Light

2. Spiritual separation from sin

Light

In verse three God begins creation by commanding light to shine out of darkness. This is was His own light shining upon the earth. This is rich imagery.

First of all it was brought about by His Word. Darkness is a twisting or perversion of light. One word from God can take that which was perverted and bring it aright before Him. It is the Word of God that changes the heart of man from being ensnared in the abyss of the darkness of sin, to being set free to walk in the light of His Word.

Psa 119:130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

Secondly, note that the earth cannot produce its own light. Light cannot come from inside us apart from God. So many in the world are trying to seek for the "divine inner self." They try to look for the answers to suffering and the problems of the world by looking inside themselves or trusting in man-made solutions. The Scripture teaches us though, that problems in this world come from us. Therefore the answer cannot come from us, the answer must come from somewhere outside of us. The answer comes when the light of God's Word shines on our heart.

2Cor 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

God has shown His glory through Messiah Yeshua. Messiah was the living revelation of the character and operations of the Father. As it is written Joh 1:5 And the light shines in the darkness; and the darkness apprehended it not. Yeshua was the light of the Father to the world. Now, we have been called to light to the world, to reveal his character and operations to the lost. Eph 5:8 For ye were once darkness, but are now light in the Lord: walk as children of light

Eph 5:9 (for the fruit of the light is in all goodness and righteousness and truth),

Light by its nature is totally benevolent, and selfless. Have you considered that light is a servant? Light serves. It does not serve itself. If we begin to serve ourselves, and lose sight of the needs of others our light is put out and we leave them to stumble in the darkness.

Light is not a liquid, it is not a solid, and it not a gas. It is in the world, but it is not of the world. Light cannot be mixed with any other substance. It is pure. Light is connected with truth in Scripture for good reason. Light moves at approximately 186,000 miles per second. It always moves that fast. It doesnt matter if its cold, hot, rainy, windy snowy, or whatever. Light, like truth, is not effected by everything around it. Light does affect its surroundings though. Likewise truth does not change. It changes us. We are changed when we allow God's love, light and the truth of the gospel into our hearts. The Word of God is Orr v'Emet (Light and Truth).

Spiritual separation from sin

God separates the light from the darkness. Likewise, we are now spiritually separated from sin, and have been brought back to God from whom we were formerly separated.

1Pe 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

We have been called out of darkness, in order that we might reveal his praises, that we might reveal His glory to the nations. We were once darkness, but now we are light in the Lord. We have been separated from sin.

The message of the Cross of Messiah is deliverance. The message of the Blood of Messiah is forgiveness. The blood forgives you of what you have done. The cross delivers you from what you are. It is the finished work of Messiah on the cross that makes you a "child of Light," or a child of God. It is the cross that separates you from your past, and delivers you from guilt, condemnation, bitterness, resentment and fear. God has taken your past, and all that you have done, and all that you were, and He has thrown them as far from Him as the East is from the West.

He has changed you, and recreated you, and has caused you to become "light in the Lord." You are no longer a member of Adam's race, but are now placed in Messiah and have been seated with Him in heavenly places. You are His pearl of great price, his own special possession.

Tomorrow we will talk about Practical Separation as seen in the separation of the waters.

Until then, Shalom Aleichem, Chaverim!!

In Israel, I need the A-1 Sauce and the STEAK! Steaks are kosher, so they are washed, salted and specially cured -- let's just say -- they're not from Omaha!

Great stuff Shilo!
