Guest Butero
There were 12 Disciples/Apostles that are made particular reference to..... Do you relate to any of them in your walk with Christ in faith? If so, which one? How? If you do not relate to one of the initial 12 that Jesus called do you perhaps relate to one of the NT writers? If so, which one? Why? Or How? That is a tough question. I don't think I can relate across the board to any of the original 12. If I was to look at any NT figure, it would probably be John The Baptist. If it is a character post Calvary, I guess it would be the Apostle Paul. That is because my whole desire is to attempt to turn people away from error to the truth. That is often what I see Paul doing. His letters were about setting things right in the various churches. What I would love to do more than anything is be able to seek out all the places where the church has strayed away from the teachings of the early church, with regard not only to doctrine, but to order, and create a church that closely resembled a NT Church. If the Lord allows, that is what I hope to do. On a separate note, one of the Bible characters I admire most is Josiah, one of the Kings of Judah. I totally relate to him. He was a great man, and the type of person I wish was leading America today. As far as the original disciples go, my favorite is John, though I can't honestly say I fully relate to him. I just admire him. He was the only one that followed Jesus all the way, even when he was standing before his accusers. Peter followed at a distance, but John stayed with Jesus. Christians today can relate to him, his struggles, and his faith in dealing with those struggles. I personally think that he speaks to the Christians of today more so than any other NT writer. After all, he was also the Apostle to the Gentiles.

Peter had his weakness, but he loved the Lord. However, I love John. He served Jesus longer than the others and if I am not wrong, he is the only one to die at home of old age. If so, which one? Why? Or How? Seeing as so many of you have already taken the time out to answer.....guess I will share and answer my own question. Honestly, I started out a Thomas....and have become a Peter in my faith. My Heavenly Father is in truth, the greatest love I have in my life. Yet....more often than not, when faced with trials and tribulation, much like Peter....I become afraid and allow my faith to waver. If not, make myself subject to doubt. While passionate too at times, much like Peter, I tend to act without thinking. Which sometimes puts me in a position of deep remorse, regret, and well...on my knees in prayer asking for humility. Still a baby really in faith....but Peter's walk...speaks the most profoundly to me. In terms of NT writers though, James is the one that tends to get to the heart strings the most. For more often than not...it is our words when coupled with our actions that can either draw a person to, or away from Christ.
