Actually the number of Iraqi deaths as of Feb. 2004 was more like 10000. Not to minimize that but far more died under Saddam and co. and the number would have continued to rise in the years to come if Saddam and sons were left in power. As a matter of fact, Saddam is responcible for killing more muslims that anyone else in current history. Saddam paid big money for suicide bombers (murderers) to take out innocent Israeli citizens.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

The figure of 100,000 is estimated by the Lancet journal and includes not just civilians but Iraqi military.

http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2004/10/29/62614/814

The Iraq Body Count site makes a much more consersative estimate of civilian only deaths at about 16,000:

http://www.iraqbodycount.net/

The IraqBody Count site has always stated that their numbers are far below the actual becasue a] they are only counting civilians and b] they are only counting those absolutely confirmed by legitimate methods.

Here's the IraqBodyCount response to the Lancet's figures of 100,000:

Regardless of Iraqi casualty numbers, which are NOT being reported by our press, if you haven't noticed, I would suggest that we have far exceeded our eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth revenge and retaliation for 9/11.

Except that this is not about revenge. It is about making the world safer for our children. And yes, I really believe that.

We certainly aren't making it any safer for the Iraqi children. I am always alarmed at the pro-life stand that every abortion is murder but bombing villages and imposing sanctions that kill children is different. If you're pro-life then you should be pro-life all the way. Don't stop at the womb, all those Iraqi children have a right to life. This is sheer hypocrisy.

My only shame and disgrace was the Abu Grabe where men were stripped and humiliated. I found it disgusting and horrific.

There are any wonderful men in the middle east that treat the people with kindness and endeaveor to do all possible to reconsitute that country to it's once former glory.

Why don't you do some research and find out about how many children died under Saddam. The ONLY reason children have died in Iraq is Saddam Hussain. Sometimes it takes wars to get rid of murderous dictators and as all of history has shown, its not always just the soldiers who die. Many Many Many more children will now live because of the action we took in Iraq.

95,000 children dead in southern Sudan

Khartoum, Sudan, Jun. 17 (UPI) -- UNICEF described as "most dramatic in the world" the situation in southern Sudan where it said 95,000 children died in 2003 from lack of health care.

A statement by the U.N. Children's Fund issued in Nairobi Wednesday on the occasion of African Child Day said, "After 21 years of war, the situation in southern Sudan is considered the worst on an international scale with regard to the living conditions of women and children."

It described the conditions of women and children as "most shocking," mostly due to the war that spread death, poverty, famine, disease and backwardness.

The statement said that one out of nine women dies during pregnancy or delivery and only 1 percent of girls complete elementary education.

If we were to conduct a military operation in Sudan, some children would get caught in the crossfire for sure. Its a sad horrible fact about war but sometimes you save more by ending a brutal regime. Saving the most you can is the best we will ever be able to do. The terrorists who shot those kids down in Russia were hiding behind them. Thats what terrorists do. Either you fight them or you let them have their way and they don't give a rat's(bleep) about your kids, my kids or any elses kids and they would kill 10 million kids if it helped their cause. If we dont fight(stop) them and stop blaming ourselves for everything, they just might someday soon.

It seems that we are rather selective about which brutal regimes we take on. We go ones most advantageous to us, say oil and corporate interests.

The US has in the past had no qualms about propping up brutal dictators as well, at the expense of the lives of countless children, as we saw over and over in Central and South America throughout the 70s and 80s, an era that most have conveniently forgotten or were never exposed to in the first place because of a media black-out on these events.

our sudanese brethren do not qualify for our blood and treasure because they are not muslims and control no oil. besides, they are "merely" Christians.

I sense cynicism somewhere around here.

Can't quite put my finger on it, though............

Don't hold your breath for the UN or France to do anything about it. We can't fight every war at once. As for oil, your right. Oil is a factor. Consider what would happen to hundreds of millions world wide if the free flow of oil were to be stopped all at once. Think about it. Think about all of the daily things you and everyone else depend on that rely on oil being available. I would like this to change but it will take some time. (years)

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
