This topic poses two questions:

(1) Who are the elect being gathered in the passage below?

(2) What is the purpose of this gathering?

Before you share your thoughts, please remember to be respectful to those who have different views.

Matthew 24:29-31 KJV

Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Well, since the Church will have been removed, the elect would be those who have survived the Tribulation as Believers. As I recall, only the Jewish nation, those who believed in the coming Redeemer, the Church, and those who believe in Christ after the Church is gone have been called the "Elect."

I may not have understood your question correctly, though.

The term elect is not only used for the 144,000, but for Christians also. Scripture is clear on this.
