Yasser Arafat dead at 75

by Michael G. Mickey

(11-11-04)

Fox News is reporting Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat has died at the age of 75. In the days ahead, now that we're as sure as we possibly could be Arafat is really gone - not simply rumored to be gone, my expectation is things are going to get very interesting in the Middle East!

President Bush, fresh off his election victory over John Kerry, is looking to make his mark on history, being encouraged by close ally Tony Blair, who calls the Israeli-Palestinian conflict the "single most pressing political challenge in our world today", to work to find a solution to the conflict - and quickly. President Bush's father, former President George H.W. Bush, according to a Jerusalem Post article, says Blair's message has been heard "loud and clear" in Washington.

The European Union's foreign policy chief, Dr. Javier Solana, recently announced the Europeans have a plan to revive the international Quartet's roadmap to peace. According to the Jerusalem Post article, which concerns a visit to be held between President Bush and Blair this week, Blair will be seeking President Bush's support for a new Middle East peace initiative, presumably Solana's.

Yasser Arafat's death is likely going to result in high tensions in the Middle East initially, at least until he is buried on the grounds of his Ramallah headquarters. In the aftermath, however, it's likely an opportunity is going to emerge for negotiations between the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli government to resume on the topic of Middle East peace.

Bible prophecy tells us a leader of Roman descent is going to confirm a covenant of peace in the Middle East between Israel and her enemies seven years in length (Daniel 9:26-27). Although there's no way any of us can know with certainty the time when that prophecy will be fulfilled is drawing near, the consensus among most diplomatic experts is Arafat's death will be a positive event in relation to bringing about a negotiated settlement between the Israeli-Palestinian conflict - a settlement which could very possibly be confirmed by a leader of Roman descent!

As I write this commentary, a news reporter is on the television asking a question we are going to hear asked repeatedly in the days ahead: Will Yasser Arafat's death create an opportunity for peace to come to the Middle East?

The coverage the liberal anti-Israel media will give to Yasser Arafat's death, funeral, and burial will probably be sickening to watch, remembering Arafat as a Nobel Peace Prize winner, as opposed to what he really was - a brutal, murderous terrorist with the blood of many innocent people on his hands.

Regardless of how Arafat is remembered by the media, Arafat's death is going to result in a flood of media coverage on the Arab/Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the end result of which is going to be a renewed desire on the part of the leaders of our world to bring peace to the Middle East - at any cost. It's a scenario like that which could lead to the rise of the Antichrist, in fulfillment of Daniel's prophecy. I'm not saying it will, but it could.

As I've stated on many occasions, Christ's return for His Church isn't an accurately predictable event, as we're told in Scripture, but the Apostle Paul said, as seen in 1st Thessalonians 5:1-6, Christians should have an idea when the time of Christ's return is drawing near!

1st Thessalonians 5:1-6:

But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

How will we know if the Antichrist's rise to global power through a seven-year peace plan is about to begin? When a whole lot of people with one particular thing in common - faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior - vanish from the face of the earth in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye.

Whenever Christians hear talk of peace negotiations of any kind taking place which relate to the nation of Israel, a spiritual alarm should go off inside their souls. Why? Because the return of Christ for His Church, although impossible to accurately predict, will take place at a time when the world, viewing Jerusalem as a burdensome stone and a cup of trembling, will be crying for peace and safety.

Friends, there is going to be a lot of that going on in the days ahead! Why? Because Yasser Arafat is dead at the age of 75.

I was thinking the same thing as Arafat was still in his coma. Whats interesting that his ailment is a complete mystery. May God have mercy on him for his sins. In all that he did that we might consider "evil" he also gave hope to many. Truely his death heralds the hope of peace for many in that region. I will be watching and listening very closely.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

i don't blame you [although my mother-in-law who is a non-believer can't understand why i have any interest]. sometimes, i just get so tired of trying to explain it - -that i am just flat out blunt. it's funny because by nature i am very shy and quiet.

forgive me for jumping all over, but does anyone know what our current positon is with the eu? last i heard on that was when bush took office and was trying to back us up a bit [clinton had us charging in with both arms open]. also, has anyone heard anything about powell's trip to israel? i know that arafat is dead and will have to stand before God for judgement, but it does amaze me how he still affects so many lives and he is rotting in the grave. so many trusted him and looked to him as leader/martyr (who had a boastful mouth with bloody hands). wouldn't want to be him and stand before God.

Godspeed to all

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
