I was wondering how exactly TV ratings are determined.

Let me explain the situation.

My wife and I really enjoy watching the ABC program "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" on Sunday nights.

There have been a few times when I was unable to watch it live, so I set the VCR to record.

I have a DirecTV satalite and it must be on when I set the VCR or it won't record the program.

The show that comes on after "EM: HE" is "Desprate Housewives" and I strongly believe it to be a show that Christians should not watch.

I don't even want the program to get ratings from my house, but if they get it from the DirecTV receiver, they will think that I am watching this show.

How exactly do they find out how many people watch a certain show? It is only by what is on the TV set? Because if so, then I am fine because I had the TV switched off when it recorded "EM: HE"

Dime Ministries, I am not sure how they do it for sure but i think a lot of it is also based on polls that happen a lot. Everyday there are survey groups calling people. I think there is a way that a signal can be counted as in how many houses watch a ceratin show but that would be tough to get an accurate count as many people use antennas only. And I would say yes that is what channel you are watching. I think we need some more input here. And I love extreme makeover too its amazing how lives are touched.

Get Tivo! It is wonderful. Then you never have to be home when a particular show comes on. You can search by name or category and record all that you want up to 100 hours of shows. I love it, then I don't have to even bother with some of those wuestionable shows.

(I do not work for the TIVO company, just love mine)

They are also called DVRs. Most cable stations now carry them, and you just pay an extra $5 a month for them. Direct TV has them for sure. I have the Dish and got mine through them. This way I also set my channel guide to only view what is on the channels I like to watch, and it sends me a reminder of the shows I like too. Pause live tv, then fast forward and rewind if you missed something or want to write down something clever Joyce says this morning. ETC.

:P We do not watch television in the evening and have no cable or dish system, we only have one over the air station just for morning news. My sister in Colorado has cable and asked me the same question the other day about the ratings system maybe you can google it and find something out that way, just a thought. We gave up on TV years ago and from what I have heard it is a good thing we did, I imagine it would be hard to guard your heart even with the commercials now a days. We went to visit a shut-in brother who has been ill for some time and he has regular cable TV, my husband was sitting on the sofa talking with him and the TV was on but the sound was down and my husband had to turn it off because of an offensive commercial. The world grows darker daily and guarding our hearts is becoming increasingly more difficult. In His Love, Ellie :thumbsup:

I agree that there is a whole lot of filth on the boob-toob these days.

It is sad. I mostly watched sports, but now I really like watching nature shows and Star Trek, TNG.

I love makeover shows. I love to see people get suprised and for someone to give them something they have always wanted. I like to see people happy. I don't watch horror flicks, or any Sci-Fi stuff, mostly the Food Net. and makeover shows.

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. 

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end. 
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house. 

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
