Why is it that England's monarchy are made to be celebrities, while we know nothing of these other nations' monarchies? I have never seen the British Monarchy as celebrities , that would be vulgar. OK, I can appreciate your sentiments, but: "A celebrity is a person, who has a prominent profile and commands some degree of public fascination and influence in day-to-day media. The term is often synonymous with wealth (commonly denoted as a person with fame and fortune), implied with great popular appeal, prominence in a particular field, and is easily recognized by the general public." Source Sadly, they are treated this way.

From your source, " Celebrities may be known around the world (e.g., pop stars and film actors), within a specific country (e.g., a top Australian rugby player); or within a region (e.g., a local television news anchor)." What I am expressing is simply the way people treat and perceive them - at least that's how it is over here. (Just ask the paparazzi!)

I do understand that people perceive them as such and I also know the enormous damage that paparazzi can do; to any family. I have an enormous respect for the Royal family for many reasons, they helped me in what was a very difficult return to the UK. (It was due to the direct interest and intervention of Prince Philip that I live where I do today.) Having met many of the members be it in a public form and a private form, I can only add that they are contrary to popular belief very hard working. I am told that because of their holdings and business they pay many times more taxes than the government gives the Queen to do her monarchy stuff. Why is it that England's monarchy are made to be celebrities, while we know nothing of these other nations' monarchies? I hear bits and pieces now and then in the news about the royals in those countries. I think we hear more about the uk royals because of the commonality of our language and heritage. For instance except for me, norway doesnt hold a lot of interest to americans in general. So I doubt the media would make much of them. I think another part of it has to do with the anglophilia type thing that goes on with some folks? Also perhaps the uk monarchy tends to be more out there in public with their particular causes. I dont recall hearing about the other monarchies having charities they are involved in. But then I may not pay attention much there lol.
