Chrisitian Christmas Vs. Commercial Christmas

Greetings Brothers and Sisters in Christ, As we all know Christmas is a very special day for all of us as it the day that Jesus was born and 30 some years later He died for each of us personally. But do we focus enough on christmas for what it is or do we get caught up in the commercialized christmas which is about presents and twinkle lights etc. Gift giving is a gesture of Love but we all have seen those who would take this to excess. Many family budgets are destroyed at chrsitmas time as they buy to excess and put it on plastic. When i see all the advertisements on tv for christmas it disgusts me. Stores have Chrismas decor up after halloween. Every year it gets worse. Our mailboxes get stuffed with advertisements for a whole month. What a waste of paper :D . How do you celebrate Christmas and what does it mean to you. I myself enjoy a nice fire on Christmas eve spending time with my wife as we reflect on the true meaning of this day. We usually listen to Christmas songs and sing along. We usually have a small buffet with appetizers and sometimes we just have pizza .

We get each other 1 gift and then some common gifts for both of us. On Christmas day it christmas dinner with my family which ends up being a present freeforall with all the kids. I have always enjoyed watching them open presents but I have seen them tear one package open after another with not so much as a Thankyou to the giver of the gift. A lot of people say christmas is for kids but its truly not. Christmas is the celebration of one very special birth, a babe born in a stable. It is the most important birth that has ever occured. We must keep that first in our hearts and mind. How do you celebrate your Christmas ??

We are very non-traditional when it comes to Christmas. Basically, we all sleep in late, then eat a huge breakfast in our pj's, watch a parade or two on the tele, then let the kids destroy the house with wrapping paper (Our folks send the kids a ton of gifts every year).

That's it. No tree, no lights, just some Christmas music, eggnog, and a destroyed house by the end of the day.

How about taking a picnic and sitting on a cold, windy beach in Norfolk(UK)

That what some people I know are going to do. :24: Then they're going back to their Grandmother's house for a casserole in the evening (by which time they'll NEED it)

Many believe that Jesus was born on the feast of tabernacles, late september or early october! Since the shepherd's were still tending sheep in that area, it has been proven that december 25th was too late for the shepherd's to be there!

December 25th is the birth of the sun god, and they raise up early in the morning to celebrate it's birth, and that is why the Pope carries a staff with a sun on top of it!

It's all a mixture of various religions to appease both the pagans and the Christians, early true christians refused to take part! There was much drinking and pagan celebration going on; in fact St. Nicklaus was the patron St. of beer drinkers!

When Christmas came to this country many refused to partake of it, but the people loved their celebrations, so they christianized it more to make it seem more harmless, and about Jesus!

If Jesus wanted His birthday to be known, it would be known,! But in fact birthday celebrations were also pagan during the time of Christ, so even though He was the Son of God, He was also a man, and lowered Himself as a common man, not allowing His birth to be above that of His brethren!

If you really study the roots of Christmas and not from a christianized perspective, you would find little of Christianity and much of the occult!

So knowing this we basically ignore that day, but working at a church it saddens me to see them blindly celebrating (what they know not)!

For me, it's not the fact that it is celebrated. I don't have a problem with a day that is supposed to bring to mind the birth of our Lord and Savior. I'm just having a problem with the fact that now, it's just become a guise for materialism, rather than what it was meant to be, at least for me and my family that is what has happened.

In His Love,

Suzanne

I totally agree with SHA ^ I read that December 25 is not really Christ birthday The Vatican just said it was so it can over shadow a pagan celebration ....Just go to an encyclopedia and read the history but in regards to celebrated its a tradition that has gone on for many years its not gonna change you can either chose to partake or not just not in excess because really we are celebrating jesus everyday already ......its like any valentine or halloween u chose to celebrate it or not but not more than the Lord

Praise God

I agree. Christmas has its roots in a pagan holiday, along with Halloween and Easter. That's why I am reading about the feasts that Jesus kept while he was here on earth. These are the holidays God's people were instructed to follow.

As followers of Jesus Christ I think they should also be important to us. I also think they will play a part during the thousand year reign of Christ and we should be familiar with them.

We still decorate and buy a few gifts for our kids. However, Christmas Eve and attending church has become the most important part of our celebration.

InChrist,

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
