Why does some churches out law wedding rings and others dont? Didnt Christ die on the cross for salvation, not the simple act of NOT wearing a gold band?

I haven't heard of that, but I do think the secular world has taken something special and destroyed it. They've taken the heart out of the wedding band. Ah, I'm taking engagement rings mostly. Anyone ever see Bridezilla? The sacredness on er, sacred things is becoming a source of entertainment. :emot-questioned: Am I far enough off topic? Maybe you can explain more?

Fields.....If you encounter a church that has a problem with wedding rings, RUN!!!! These are the same people who might make you drink Jim Jones Kool-Aid. There are probably people that think that wearing a wedding ring will send you to hell but I believe it is honorable. People who are looking for mates need to know. People who are married need to let people who are not know that they are married. A wedding ring means "taken". Thats a good thing.

I really need to start wearing mine again...it was a "mommy thing" when I stopped wearing it. I always would end up scratching my babies when I was dressing them or bathing them and just plain playing with them. And even though they are now 11 and 7 I still don't wear it. I still get on the floor and roll with them to this day...and seems like everytime I put it on one of them gets scratched. Come to think of it thats when I stopped wearing earrings too...babies think those are pull toys :emot-questioned:

Wedding rings in my opinion are important...even though I dont wear my real one often...I still have a plain gold band that is on my left hand...I'm proud to be married to my husband I know God sent him to me and I want everyone to know I am married. I wouldn't have married in a church that disallowed wedding bands.

Just my opinion though.

Love and Blessings,

Angel

Dear fields,

This is just my opinion. You don't have to accept it if you dislike it. DISCLAIMER: I am not a christian.

Why does some churches out law wedding rings and others dont?

I can only guess. I copied the following description of the origins of wedding rings below from some innocuous website:

Wedding Rings History

We are all probably familiar with the fact that wedding rings, or "circles", symbolized perfection, perfect unity with no beginning and no end. For some it represents holiness, perfection and peace, as well as the sun, earth and universe. You may even be aware that it was once believed that the third finger of the left hand had a special vein, "vena amoris" or "the vein of love", running directly to the wearers heart. And it is from this romantic custom that we today have the custom of placing wedding rings on this finger.

Ancient Egyptians believed that unbroken circular rings insured eternal love and devotion. Wedding Rings were placed on the third finger of the left hand because it was thought that the vein in that finger ran directly to the heart.

The above description does hint at pagan origins. I guess some churches will have nothing to do with things pagan. This reminds me of the Christmas thread where some christians will have nothing to do with trees or mistletoe since both symbols have pagan origins.

Go figure.

Regards,

More confirmation I copied the following description of the origins of wedding rings below from some innocuous website:

Rotenberg has plenty of history to back him up. The roots of his business actually reach 4,800 years, to the ancient Egyptians, who are generally credited with the genesis of wedding band exchanges when they started twisting reedy plants like hemp into rings. These, they believed, were linked to supernatural, immortal love, a circle with no end. The Romans upgraded to iron. (Revoltingly enough, though, for Roman women, bands signified a binding legal agreement of ownership by their husbands, who regarded rings as tokens of purchase.) Both the Egyptians and Romans wore bands on the fourth finger of the left hand because they swore the vena amoris, or love vein, connected directly from that finger to the heart, thereby joining a couple's destiny.

well this pastor is telling me that he frowns on that because in the bible it says

1 Peter 3:2-4 (New International Version)

2when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. 3Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. 4Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.

so he says that gold and jewelry are a no no- but its not going to send you to hell..and he's trying to get me a position within the church to lead so im trying to walk right..but my wife wants a new ring for our anniversary..the same ring i been promising for FOUR YEARS..and im in line to buy it but this guy says not to..am i wrong for doing right by my wife?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
