The latest from CBC is-

Object found in water suspected to be one of plane's doors

  • Radar indicates jet may have turned back before vanishing
  • Authorities investigating up to four passengers with suspicious identifications
  • Pair on stolen EU passports had onward reservations
  • Plane carried 227 passengers and 12 crew members, including 2 infants
  • 2 Canadian passengers identified

News from 2 hrs ago says the debris is not from the plane. But that would be good in a way if it was from the plane. At least families would have closure.

Wasn't there a Muslim gang knife attack in China last week?

Separatists Uighur Muslims knifed 27 Chinese to death and injured another 109 at the Kunming railway station -- and 2/3 of the passengers on this missing jet were also Chinese.

So was this a possible follow-up attack by more Uighurs?

That the plane disappeared so suddenly and without warning from the crew has been characterized as either "a catastrophic event, or a criminal act".

Or perhaps a catastrophic criminal act?

Saw this in the news. One of those aboard has a Christian family.

And apparently one company just lost 20 employees on that flight.

Iit would be a very odd terrorist attack for which nobody claimed responsibility. The sole aim of a terrorist attack is to draw attention to a cause.  As to the false passport issue, well false passports are used by people who for whatever reason illegal immigration or criminal activities have ambitions for their futures. They want to live, they just don't want to get caught People on suicide missions, on the other hand, usually want folk to know who they where. They seek posthumous glory and adulation.

Apparently there was no claimed responsibility for the train station attack either.

"News reports on Saturday did not identify the attackers, but on Sunday the Kunming government said that there was evidence at the scene 'showing that this was an act of violent terror planned and organized by Xinjiang separatists,' according to Xinhua. Although the government’s statement did not say the attackers were Uighurs, it contained language often used to refer to members of the minority group."

As for the jet, it supposedly banked to return home, and then nothing -- that could mean the crew found a serious problem and didn't have time to call it in (?) or a hijacking gone wrong.

BTW, "As many as four passengers boarded the flight with false documentation ..."

To me, that sounds suspicious.

Apparently there were some Austrialians and 3 or 4 Americans aboard.I read a news item that said the plane may have just disintegrated.I read something a couple of years ago by a pathologist who has done some autopsies on some plane crash victims when the plane has exploded in the air.You would think that they die instantly but not always. It was a scary read.

it could have been a botched one-perhaps they were wanting to hi-jack the plane and crash it into a building or other target of interest, and perhaps it went wrong and it went down. Hence why theyre not claiming responsibility.

All speculation. We are curious. It seems very strange for a huge plane such as it was to simply disappear. One of the news sources said this airline had the best safety record. We will just have to wait and see.
