The purpose driven Church and Life books are sweeping Americas Churches and I wanted to see how viewers of this topic views them as helpful or harmful?

Some people act as if these books are inspired as the Bible.

Happy New Year and may Christ richly bless you all in 2005.

Some people act as if these books are inspired as the Bible.

I know many people who have done this book, and none of them had that attitude. Our church has done it twice.

I don't know anything about it, but I trust my Pastor and his judgement and that of several of the people who I know led the studies, so I'm sure there is nothing terribly wrong with it.

Work in progress: could be there is something wrong with it.I am reading a book called decieved on purpose and I am southern baptist and this book has really opened my eyes because I felt something was not right with these purpose driven campaigns especially with the message bible paraphrase used because its one of the faultiest Bibles on the market.

Here is a article out of the book im reading.

God bless you.

How about renaming his books--THE UNCRUCIFiED DRIVEN LIFE, and THE UNCRUCIFiED DRIVEN CHURCH?

WIP how did your church go throug it twice and you know nothing about it? I hope tha't not entirely too direct, but I've seen it done twice and one of the major stress points is full church involvement. Was it done in a sunday school environment?

As for the book itself, I didn't make it through. I am, not to sound boastful, a person who desires Depth. This is a very practical and down to earth book (for the first 18 chapters and I assume the enterit book

I too noticed the over usage of the Message and am disturbed at some of the choices of Scripture. However, I am convinced however obscure the verses were, the teachings were indeed Scriptural. Why Mr. Warren used some obscure passages I do not know but often I could think of dozens of verses that would have been sufficient.

One Major Plus of the Whole thing is the Small Group emphasis. It really challenges the people of God to get away from "church, and Sundays" and to bring their Christian Life beyond Sunday mornings. It almost forces you to develop much needed freinds and Fellowship. The videos and Study Guides drill home many important truths.

For the deep studier, it's a struggle. I am a cynic as my wife says, and I tore up and down Ricks first 18 or so chapters finding numerous things that "bothered me" But what I also saw was how, in spite of that the small group brought people together, and it's not all about what Rick writes, discussions ensue and people open up.

If someone wants to analyze this book for supposed "accuracy" it would be simple to find, men find it everywhere. My suggestion is try it. And get involved in it.

One thing is sure, if anyone has seen the 2 hour "kick off" video you will find that if nothing else Rick Warren is extremely sincere in his love for God, and the lives of God's people. There is no arguing the blessings God has bestowed on this man and his church. The hundreds of lives that have been changed for Christ, are all the evidence of a life devoted to Christ.

I am convinced that if you enter with an open mind and heart, God will show you something, if not through the book, through the people you meet.

I hope this is helpful, and it is just my opinion, take that for what it's worth :24:

This practical down to earth book is leading people into new age thinking that God is in everyone and every thing when He is not.

How could Rick warren use such of a paraphrase that clearly does not agree with older versions #1.KJV #2 NKJV #3NIV Ect?

The videos and study guides teach the books that he has written and again makes one believe that God is in everything and everyone when He is not.99% water with 1% strychnine will still kill a person (Galatians 5:9)A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.KJV

If something bothered you you should of known that something about it was not right.Rick Warren gets a lot of his teachings from Robert Shuller and Robert Shuller use to teach courses out of a book called (a course in miracles)a christian science book that teaches God is in everything and everyone when He is not.(Romans 8:9)But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit,if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ,he is none of his.

Brotherswmiller: So NOW we are answerable for what OTHERS WRITE when our own works are published in an ANTHOLOGY????

I am no fan of Rick Warren's work, but that seems an absurd standard. I have a book at home with quotations from just about every religion's 'holy books.' Is God responsible for what the Hindus write, just because somebody quoted Him in this book?

This is much ado about nothing.

My parents read the books, and went to the small groups sessions. Guess what changed? Nothing. The book is on the shelf with all the others they have read, and they continue on as they were before; watching CNN and "Everybody Loves Raymond." My church went through the "fourty days of change," and have now moved on to something else.

This is just a fad, that will go the way of other fads. It was all the rage in 2004, and soon will be sitting around collecting dust with all the other "big hits" from years past.

This fad is dangerous. There are books in Christian book stores that are very dangerous for example a few years ago I went to a local baptist book store in my community and bought a book called (The Sermon on the Mount by emmet fox) that was written previous to the 1950`s and this author was a metaphysician and involved in so-called Christian science and gave many public lectures in his life time.He denied that we are sinners and that Christ and the cross was a bloody religion that he believed to be a myth ect.

Rick Warrens books are even sold in wal-mart on the same shelf as many unchristian books. Its a fad that people needs to be aware of that boils down to the roots of Christian science.A book that just come out exposing Rick Warrens purpose driven campaigns is a must.Deceived on purpose by warren smith.

Peace in Jesus.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
