from The Independent:

"The rise of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isis) has been aided by the continuing failure of the US Government to investigate the role of Saudi Arabia in the 9/11 attacks and its support of jihadi movements such as al-Qaeda in the years since, says former Senator Bob Graham, the co-chairman of the official inquiry into 9/11.

"Senator Graham, who chaired the Senate Intelligence Committee, said that successive administrations in Washington had turned a blind eye to Saudi support for Sunni extremists. He added: 'I believe that the failure to shine a full light on Saudi actions and particularly its involvement in 9/11 has contributed to the Saudi ability to continue to engage in actions that are damaging to the US – and in particular their support for Isis ...'"

The statement above comes from Sen. Graham's book "Intelligence Matters".  I recommend that everyone interested in this subject read it.

In that book, Sen. Graham states that VP Cheney was responsible for obstructing congressional investigation into the role played by the US intelligence community in 911.   One of the issues the congressional committee uncovered was the fact that one of the terrorists was living in the home of an FBI agent prior to 911.

Illiterate persons, who immediately dismiss US government duplicity into the 911 attacks, fail to consider legitimate investigations such as the one conducted by the US congressional committee.   Agencies of our own government were intimately involved in the attacks.   The only controversy that should remain is discussion and investigation as to the details.

Obstruction of any official investigation be it the local district attorney or a congressional committee is a felony offense.  A FELONY.  Yet Mr. Cheney has gone unpunished.  This should give anyone pause to consider how high the US government involvement in 911 went.

Historically, the US intelligence communities' connection with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) goes back to the 1980's and the illegal involvement of the CIA in Nicaragua, specifically the support of the terrorist group known as the Contras.  At the time, Congress passed into law a provision that prevented any and all financing of CIA involvement there.  George HW Bush, then VP under Reagan, used his personal connections with the KSA to arrange financial support.   Iran, then a client state of America, was used for acquisition and distribution of arms to the Contras.   Discovery and subsequent investigation of the matter was then conducted by congress, which came to be known as the Iran-Contra affair.  I must add at this point that President Reagan LIED to congress when he said he didn't know about KSA-CIA involvement.  He did.  I personally spoke to an agent of the Secret Service who was in the room with the president when Reagan was being briefed on the subject.  The whole sad affair was the beginning of US involvement with the Gulf States and the KSA into their Muslim civil war against Shia Islam.

CIA creation of al Qaeda and Isis/Isil is in the pattern of the contras complete with the financial backing of KSA.  Nothing has changed except the increasing duplicity of the US government.

and that's just me, hollering from the choir loft...

how much oil does America get from Saudi?   :th_frusty:

Very little actually. The us does produce around 40% of its own oil with the bulk of the rest coming from Venezuela and Canada. We get very very little from that neck of the woods. However other has a point, but I should point out the oil fields in north Dakota have enough oil to keep america self sufficient for generations-and that's without the keystone pipeline. But thanks to the epa were barely tapping the oil reserves we have. We should not have to import any oil-and should be one of the largest exporters of oil in the world.

In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way.

Franklin D. Roosevelt

He said that a long time ago, but it is still valid today.
