But when John wrote Revelation, Jerusalem was already rubble and ashes. Israel's time as a nation led by God was over, as Daniel was told hundreds of years before - 490 years were given to her to repent and accept the Messiah, but she rejected and crucified the promised One. Jesus wept over her demise "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that kills the prophets..." Luke 13:34,35. "Behold your house is left unto you desolate..." Is the holy city a land mass coming down out of heaven ? - Heavenly Jerusalem is the original from which the earthly Jerusalem was copied. So God could enter earthly Jerusalem to dwell with Him people. This is why God refers to Jerusalem as a Woman, because He made Jerusalem His by entering her.Jesus went to heavenly Jerusalem to make it 'NEW Jerusalem'. As we would be living there with God.
