What will it gain you if you gain the world and lose your soul?

Words have meaning and I'm curious if we take the word soul and exchange it with a definition of something like "the you that you were created to become" if it would still fit. Not a direct metaphor per se, but more like a general statement that can often be used interchangeably.

In the above verse it seems to work. Sort of like when someone is conformed to the world and doesn't truly become a mature, sanctified believer.

Yes,your soul is very,very important.

True. And the spirit is even more important, because if your spirit remains dead, your soul will be lost.  Man is a tripartite being -- the spirit, the soul, and the body constitute the individual. Until and unless one is born again, the spirit is dead, and if the spirit is not alive, one cannot truly worship in spirit and in truth.  There is no need to substitute "soul" with another phrase. The soul is you apart from God.  The spirit is you in union and communion with God, through Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit.  So, to answer your question, the spirit is the truest part of the person.

The soul and the spirit are the same,  The words are often used interchangeably in scripture.  The times where scripture seems to make a distinction is when it uses the term soul to refer to the lower "part" of the soul which is the seat of the emotions and passions and interacts with the body through the senses, and the spirit to refer to the higher part which is the seat of the intellect and will and  interacts with God and the spiritual realm.

I read Watchman Nee  The Spiritual Man which framed my understanding of the the body, soul and spirit for many, many, many years.

He was wrong.    We are not a tripartate being.  We are a duality.

We were created for the higher aspects of our spiritual soul to be in control of the lower aspects and our body in perfect harmony in communion with God.

When we are separated from God, the lower aspects of our soul, our passions and emotions reign over the higher aspects, and through it the desires of the flesh control us.

When we are reconciled to God, the lower aspects of our soul are put in their proper relation to the higher aspects of our spiritual soul.

Unfortunately, we still bear within us patterns of behavior and thought that allow it to exert itself in sin, that we must subject to Christ and the power of the cross to defeat.

Remember, the body is so important that it will be resurrected and transformed to be like Christ's resurrected body.

it's good that the brother's in Christ agree in union with Yeshua with Yahweh's Word.

those who are tares , dead, or little weeds have no living spirit, so for them dead soul and carnal flesh is all they have.

Yeshua is Life-Giving Spirit, Yahweh births from heaven Living Spirits in His children  - simple obvious Truth from all of Scripture.

the one world false church opposes all who are true;  they oppose Scripture and cannot grasp it, unless to an individual Yahweh grants the ability to grasp it (and He doesn't as long as they love darkness and sin and trust in man/flesh /human wisdom and knowledge that exalts itself against Yahweh the Creator.) .

Yes Jeff Thumbs Up

We are a three part Being:
1 Thess 5:23
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit
and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

KJV
This is an inward out prayer- s/Spirit the inner man and Holy Spirit; the soul comprised of non-corporeal aspects, mind, will, emotion;
the body the pure corporeal existing only in space time matter continuum...   Love, Steven

Gen 1

7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Gen 1

26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Hebr 4

12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

If my conclusion of these verses are wrong someone can correct me.

I conclude there are three parts to man.

the body would not withstand burning in hell long as it would be consumed by the fire or heat. Therefore I see the body discarded at death and the soul and spirit go to heaven if you are chosen by God (Jesus ) otherwise the soul and spirit are separated and the soul goes to hell and God reclaims the spirit.

this may be wrong conclusion but it is my present understanding
