Social awkwardness

Recommended Posts

Guest Thallasa

Sometimes I WISH I was more introverted; it might make me keep my mouth shut at times when I KNOW I'm going to make people mad.  There's nothing wrong with being an introvert; imagine if everyone in the world was the same.  It would be TOO boring.

So funny you are ,and correct too ,it would be boring .

Perhaps I'm not so socially awkward after all, this is me giving an interview for local news today link

Hey,you did a great job. :D thumbup.gif

Thanks, Actually I'm not happy with the interview, as it appears in the report, a lot of it was cut, and I felt they left out the best parts where I discuss a solution I have came up with, for churches to get together to use use their buses, my wife also set up a Facebook page on the issue, but that part was cut too.

I can relate to this I too am a shy person and yes too others who don't know your shy they may see you as cold but that's because they don't understand what it's like so don't feel like they are ignoring you on purpose.                                                                 What has helped me is being out with friends and socialising with them often helps build my confidence because I am calm and relaxed with them. I know this reply is late but just discovered this post hope everything is ok with you now :). God Bless

I have a really problem with social awkwardness. It has got better over the years, but I still have problems talking to people, some people even think I come across as rude and cold. The truth is I want to be out going, I feel like the real me is trapped inside, I feel my shyness is keeping me from being the man God wants me to be. I would like some advice to combat this problem thanks.

I am really shy as well. I cannot just go up to people and start talking... there are people I work with that know nothing about me and what I've gone through... like you, they misinterpret the quietness and being private as being unfriendly. IF they talk to me... I don't keep the real me trapped inside, I'm pretty genuine, but I may not feel comfortable with them for a year or it could be pretty quick (I think that depends on who they are)... so if asked, I may or may not open up or trust them.

There are times when I wish I could speak up but can't, but I don't think it prevents me from being who God wants me to be... there are people that need to be witnessed/ministered to by someone with a quiet, shy nature.. that's how I was... if someone came at me with the gospel too in my face, I immediately would shut down and hear nothing they had to say. One thing to keep in my mind, if it's interfering with your witness you need to do something about it and a friend had mentioned to me it's not good being on either extreme of being too concerned with what others think of you - egotism or timidity.

A couple things that helped me was getting involved in teaching youth group and a parliamentary debate club. You just gotta keep practicing until it gets less awkward. I still forget a name 10 seconds after I meet someone because I'm feeling so awkward lol... I have to really, consciously make myself remember the name.
