What is that Smell

Hello All,

Wondering if anyone may know the answer or be willing to assume one. About 2 years ago my grandmother passed away. One day, not sure if it was a day or two after her passing or whether it was a couple weeks, but I came home to an empty house and was really thinking of my grandma. I walked into the house and set down on the couch. All of a sudden I experienced this sweetest smell. It is hard to describe. It was so strong that I actually walked around the house to see if anyone was inside my house. It was not a perfume smell per se but rather a strong wonderful sweet-like smell. I walked around and could not smell it anyplace other then where I was sitting. Then, all within 2 or 3 minutes it was totally gone. I thought it was strange at the time but did not really think anymore about it until a couple weeks ago.

During our 40 days of purpose meeting, a daughter and mother were talking about sitting at the bedside of an older person that was ready to pass and upon passing, they both experienced a wonderful sweet smell. They were the only two in the room that encountered it. After hearing this, I really started to think hey I smelled the same thing a couple years ago.

Has anyone else ever experienced this and does anybody know how to interpret an encounter such as this.

Thank You

There are only two ways that supernatural odors can be created, through demons or angels.Demons love to play mind games with people and deceive them.Satan's greatest desire is to prove that he is superior to God.If he can trick people into thinking that his magic tricks are from God,then in his mind,he is winning.

It is possible that odors can be created by angels but angels do not communicate with us in that manner .When God wants to tell us something He does it Himself,or through Jesus or the Holy Ghost.Creating odors to send some sort of subtle confusing message is not God's style but it is a game that Satan is likely to play.

A few years ago I had a similar manifestation of odor in my apartment after I attempted to get our apartment building's office manager fired. For months, even after she was fired,my apartment was visited with daily loud pounding noises and perfectly horrible odors, making me convinced that the former manager was a member of a witchcraft coven. The incident becomes even more interesting because during the months I was trying to get her fired, she also attempted to get me to commit adultery by filling an attractive next-door woman with completely irrational lust which compelled her to engage in bizarre behavior. You certainly have to give Satan credit for his creative efforts.

I have never heard of anything like that but would be curious to know if there is anything to it.

Demons would be possible I would assume. Just not sure in my case or the case I heard what advantage it would be for them. In my case, I did not wonder if it was coming from good or evil. I did not know what it was. All I knew was it was a very strong and wonderful fragrance. When it stopped, I did not think about it again. The other couple that talked about it. At the deathbed of a very Christian man, they also smelled something similar, And their immediate thoughts were, if that was a smell from heaven, I can not wait. Again, not a good thing for demons I would not think.

Thanks for your response.

Diabetics who have suffered a siezure will often emit a sweet smell. I have doubts about angels and demons giving off a smell. Is there a Biblical reference to this? I haven't read any.

actualloy the odor from a diabetic when their blood sugar is becoming unstable is more like that of some one that has been drinking vodka..... ( this is what i have exsprienced with many of my diabetic friends and even a few non- diabetic friends when they are trying to stay away from starches and sugars ( dieting )

there were times with my former business partner when i would have to tell him that he needed to get something in his system, for the odor was starting to come.

i use to have a friend that was a vodka lover, and he and his bedding ( military ) would have the odor of old or almost rotten potatos..........

this is not a pleasent odor..............

I was worship leader at our church for many years. This one morning I was sitting in the 2nd row from the front, working on the music. It was early, not quite time to start. I heard someone walk past me; felt the brush of air; and smelled cigarettes. Thinking it was my daughter in law, who smokes, I looked up to speak to her. No one was there, and no one was in the building but me.

I have heard also that when people are worshipping, some smell roses. They believe it's the presence of the Lord. I have never experienced that.

Someone once told me that diabetics can smell like Juicy Fruit chewing gum.

I think that, with regard to the subject of smelling odors in general, it bears noting that your sense of smell is sort of "dynamically linked" with the human psyche. People have experienced certain odors in the midst of elation, and even in the midst of depression, but that does not necessarily mean that they are experiencing actual odors.

The human brain is amazingly complex, as is the human body. For example, psychologists have known about something called "aversion" for many years. Let's say a child is sitting at the breakfast table eating his corn flakes and suddenly he begins to choke and cough violently. After mom runs over and pats him on the back he throws up whatever it is that's causing him to choke (Throwing up is a very common bodily reaction to stress). Years later, as an adult, this same person walks into the kitchen and smells bacon that his wife is cooking on the stove. Suddenly he gets lightheaded and nauseous, and throws up right there on the spot. Well, it turns out that as a child this person was smelling bacon right before he began to choke on his breakfast. As an adult that smell acted like a trigger which caused his nausea and vomiting.

That's basically what aversion is. Your brain can associate smells or sounds with negative reinforcement and cause a physical reaction such as vomiting, headaches, blurred vision, etc. So some of you may be wondering why you can't stand the smell of cookies, bacon, gasoline, etc. and it makes you nauseous. Well, it could be that you had some sort of negative reinforcement that those smells are related to.

You can also experience certain smells in relation to memory recall. Just think about something pleasant for a moment. Think about the smell of fresh baked bread for 10 seconds or so. Can't you almost smell it? Your brain actually has the capability of storing that smell. You can also recall pleasant memories such as a barbeque with your family, or having hot tea with your grandmother before she passed away, and your brain will trigger those smells and sounds for you. Then sometimes a smell will bring back the pleasant memory. This also happens with negative sensory input. A loud sound or a horrible smell can actually trigger physical reactions in us. It's our body's way of alerting us to danger, or protecting itself from danger.

I'm not saying that angels or demons don't have a particular smell, or that they cannot fool us to smell something. But I do question the motivation behind such things, and I wonder if there is any Biblical example of this. Many people experience things at the height of elation or depression that can be explained naturally. They do not always need a spiritual explanation.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
