Hours after North Korea fired off a missile into the East Sea Sunday morning, the United States, Japan and South Korea requested "urgent consultations" from the United Nations Security Council, an official at the U.S. Mission to the UN confirmed.

The meeting will take place Monday.

In a statement, the spokesman for the UN secretary-general condemned the missile launch, saying North Korea's action "is a further troubling violation of Security Council resolutions."

considering our debt, I think it's time we withdraw a whole lot more than just payments to them.

Which organization are you referring to?

We spent .08% of our federal budget on the UN in 2016, about 3 billion dollars. If you're interested in reducing debt, it would be far more effective to make minor cuts to military spending, which totaled over 500 billion dollars in 2016.

Why spend 3 billion or anything on an organization that wants to take away your country's sovereignty in the name of globalism?

For the purpose of humanitarian aid or uniting against common threats like North Korea? My main point is that cutting contributions to the UN is not going to have a perceptible impact on our national debt.

The United Nothing will make sure they live up to their name with  this nuclear issue involving N. Korea.

Do you think that the UN should have more power so it could do more in circumstances like this one?

Yeah, I can agree that the number of condemnations against Israel is ridiculous when there's far more grievous assaults on human rights elsewhere.

It's my opinion that if you want the UN to be accomplishing more, then it's going to need a combination of more power/resources, or it would need to allocate its expenditures more in line with what you want it to accomplish.

We've cut military way too much...  no matter the %, it and many other is a waste, and it all adds up.   Check with Dave Ramsey to get a good grip on how to get out of debt.
