He knows things now that he could not have known during the campaign. He is privy to information he didn't have when a candidate. Becoming president does tend to affect change in your perspectives on such things like foreign policy. 4-star General Jack Keane pointed out recently that "becoming president is a transformational experience." “He’s no longer a guy like me sitting on the outside rendering opinions.” He went on to say, “I think what you’re seeing here frankly is someone who feels a sense of accountability and responsibility as the president of the United States knowing he has the power to stop the horrendous act that’s taken place, to do something about it based on the moral underpinnings of this great country of ours and other God-fearing people in the world.”

Candidate Trump said that he didn't need so many briefings. President-elect Donald Trump explained on "Fox News Sunday" that he would not be taking the daily intelligence briefings, instead leaving that responsibility to Vice President-elect Mike Pence. http://insider.foxnews.com/2016/12/12/donald-trump-declines-daily-intelligence-briefings

He didn't not take the briefings. He simply didn't take briefings if they were going to be the identical information in the last briefings, which sometimes they are. And those briefings are just that, briefings. They are not the full body of information that you get when you become president. When he became president, he was informed about a whole range of things, that were not contained in "briefings."

Guest shiloh357
Just now, JaniceR said: Nice try at deflection. No, the point is that these are briefings on current intelligence. They are not full scope of the presidency. Every president is surprised at how much they information they come into when they become president and it always changes how they look at foreign policy. And it is quite common for presidents to change their posture from where they were during the campaign. It's no different than with Trump. So to criticize Trump for saying something different now based on a whole body of information that he didn't have as a candidate is really pointless.
