When I was very young  I tried to convince my wife that  it was an import from Wales. Had her going for just a little while, then she considered the source and said; stop it that is not so.

I think living tract instead of a tip is a bad witness. It comes across to the waiter or server that God doesn't give people good wages, in contrast, "Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift but as an obligation," (Romans 4:4). I say put yourself in their shoes, you are trying to pay rent or mortgage, you need to pay for internet to even comment here at Worthy Forums, and so forth. Would you like to be stuck with your wages, or would you like to get tips (extra money) for your good work and service? I say tick to Golden Rule, "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." (Matthew 7:12).

Does people leaving a tract instead of a tip to a waiter or waitress really happen? I have heard rumors that is goes on, and know Christians have a bad reputation when it comes to tipping. However if anyone here has worked as a waiter/waitress has it happened to you? Do you leave a tract instead of a tip? or is this just an urban legand that someone thought up out of the blue?

I say leave a ridiculously large tip with the tract (rubber band them together if you can).

If you really want to take a chance to make an impact on the receiver of both.

Especially if they don't deserve it (the tip I mean, of course).

Wait staff get cheated out of the hard earned money they deserve for dealing with the public and serving them.

The tips are in addition to their wages not instead of huge amounts of their wages.

If unfair to the rest of the staff... then they should try being wait staff!

Bet they go back to the kitchen etc. PDQ or get fired.

Very sore subject with me (I used to be a "pearl diver" as a kid). Dishwasher... I saw first hand what the waiters / waitresses do and go through and they deserve a full wage plus tips that they don't have to split with anyone.

You raise a good point. The tips are split between the whole staff.

I think if you are going to leave tract, place it with tip, maybe write something cleaver like "a worker deserves its wage," (Jesus).

I've never heard of the waitresses having to share their tips with any of the staff. But most do share a portion with the buss boys who clean the tables for them, getting them ready for new customers. Helps insure nice clean tables.  I personally leave cash for the waitresses, so they get it before someone else gets a hold of it. I don't leave my money for the staff or management. My family prays at any meal, restaurants included.   Our witness is a nice tip for their service.

Its pretty common where I live, that manager expects all tips to be gathered into pool and distributed equally. However, this seems to be part of the "everyone gets a trophy" syndrome. What if one waiter or waitress gets say an extravagant amount in tips 300 USD, but he or she has to now share it evenly with the others who did not. And I wonder why service has gone downhill in my part of the country.

Almost like the patrons are going to have to subsidize the business.        .Socialism= a political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.    And the poor waitresses get poorer.

Indeed, the farmers of Soviet Russia had to keep a community (commune) garden for the state, it always rotted, while their private garden flourished and they sold it on black market.

I have made up an 80 pound cardstock the size of a dollar.  One size says "A TIP" the other side says "JESUS SAVES"

I never leave it with less than a 20.  Usually in a place where it looks like the waitress needs help.

About six months ago our waitress filled up my coffee cup and I noticed she'd been crying.  Turned out a large table had run up a $60 group meal and skipped out without paying.  At Delta restaurants the waitress has to make that shortfall.

I left her our 25% tip and the $60 to make it up.....   she caught me at the door in full tears and gave me a little kiss on the cheek like you would your sister.  And as we left she said, "Yes he does."
