first of all, if anyone is worried whether you have commited the unpardonable sin...you haven't. Dr. Frank Harbor is an excellent preacher, and he put it very nicely. You can't be saved unless called by the Holy Spirit, and when he calls you and you reject him over and over again, I feel that eventually you will commit that sin, and you will be dead in Christ. Frank Harbor said that when someone commits this sin, they won't even care!!! Because they are basically the living dead!!! I feel everyone will have a cut-off point with God, but i also feel that you have to reject the conviction of the Holy Spirit up to that line and then you have committed the unpardonable sin.

I would agree with everyone else and just wanted to add what I see the unpardonable sin to be:

Jesus did many miracles and many people believed in Him, but when the scribes heard about it, they said, "...He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils." Mark 3:22

I believe the scriptural and visual evidence showed them that Jesus was the Son of God without a shadow of a doubt. Jesus made every provision to show that He was the Messiah. Jesus arguements were convincing, but I believe after all of that the scribes still rejected God.

I believe this was the foundation of Blaspheming the Holy Spirit. They rejected God, even when the evidence was clear.

You'll get a range of answers to this but one sin that becomes unpardonable is the sin of unforgiveness.

That is to say if you die refusing to forgive your brother some perceived offense, you will not be forgiven, according to the very words of Christ. He tells us to "forgive and you shall be forgiven."

I think the original question was in reference to the passage in Matthew 12:

31 And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. and exactly what constitutes blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

If we understand that faith comes to us through the working of the Holy Spirit in our hearts, then rejecting the Holy Spirit pushes the faith that saves us away too.

If we die having pushed away faith --and the grace that comes with it-- we go to hell. If we reject that faith, but then later see the error of our ways and receive the Holy Spirit again, we go to heaven.

When Jesus discusses our spirit of forgiveness for others, He is giving guidance on how the faithful (e.g., those ALREADY saved) should behave, not giving a proscription for salvation.

Wow, Keith, I'm really glad I re-read your reply for a third (fourth?) time. My first impression of what you were saying was totally off the mark. I now realize your comments are right on!

Just goes to show me once again that I should ponder before I pontificate.

Have a blessed day!

Enchiridion, Did I word my post oddly? I try to pay attention to how I word things so that humor comes out as humor and my ideas come out clearly. I don't always succeed, though!

I know what you mean though! I hate it when I put my foot in my mouth! For me that happens when my speech comes faster than my thinking. Sometimes when I'm reading other people's posts, if I think I could be misunderstanding something, I'll PM them first for clarification before I respond.

Oh, my goodness, the fault is entirely mine. You were quite clear! The first time I just skimmed your post and formed an assumption, then read the whole thing based on that assumption, which, upon reading carefully the next day, I realized was in error. When I read all your words, in order, your meaning was perfectly clear.

Excellent advice. If a poster is truly unclear (which you were NOT!) that's a great approach to take. :(

God bless,

Enchiridion

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
