They had candle driven, but we used alcohol in a small cap, would burn/steam the water in the recirculating tubes at the rear. Called them pop pop boats. They were presents to us kids, from our parents, to light a fire in the bath tub, and race around with the fire burning for propulsion. Parents were cool back then............. You could have hurt yourself. Kinda funny they have tried to repackage this old premium as a stand alone "toy" but have to put today's warning on the package. I had one too back in the mid to late 1940's I think, probably came inside some hot cereal that tasted bad box. Think there might have been a Naval fleet, I seem to remember a cruiser that propelled along as the soda bubbled.
