God favored Jacob, made a nation of Him, because he was a smart a wily man who listened and sought out God

Esau was a lout and slow coach who sold his birth rite for a bowl of stew.  God could not make a nation from that

So He favored (loved) Jacob and disfavored (hated) 

I agree with you had to edit ✍️ because I got on a rant about something else

but to the topic I think it’s about nations God loved Israel and Hated Edom, is what Malachi was getting at, and Paul was just doing what Paul does and quoted him to explain his point in Romans 9 to the Jews that God shows mercy and Grace to whoever he wants, and that just being Jewish doesn’t mean you will be automatically saved 

As the Jews were trying to tell the Gentiles at the time
