18 ‘The Lord is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.’ Numbers 14:18

The Lord...visits the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation. (Exodus 34:6-7 = Deuteronomy 5:8-10)

What does this refer to?

What is this iniquity? I have data mined the bible for this word but I get so many different meanings of what this specific iniquity is being told it could mean if a paticular sin then what?

Can anyone define exactly how long is a generation in scripture please?

Thanks

There are different curses that can be seen operating down through family lines....the result of Godlessness and sin/iniquity, and is God's righteous judgment/chastisement.  But we have to remember that for any individual the gospel has power to set the person free from those curses through repentance and faith in Christ, and following Him.

Revelations 2:2

“I know all the things you do. I have seen your hard work and your patient endurance. I know you don’t tolerate evil people. You have examined the claims of those who say they are apostles but are not. You have discovered they are liars. 3 You have patiently suffered for me without quitting.

4 “But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first![a] 5 Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first. If you don’t repent, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches.
