Can we be too rightous and wise

OK ....I would like to hear some opinions about this verse.

Ecclesiastes 7:16. Do not become righteous overmuch, nor show yourself excessively wise.

Where is the balance? When is it too much?

Too much is when we consider ourselves wise and righteous.

That is better left for other people to judge of you

I guess to me it says do not become pompous, and do not start thinkin ya know it all.

The righteousness being talked about here is very diff" from the robe we should have on the garment when we meet Our Lord.

To maybe lay it out in style, it kinda says.

"Don't get into peoples face thinkin ya are better than them and ya know more then everyone around"

Do not act spiritual just to attract attention to make your self look Holy, for there is only one who is Holy and that is God, when you become Selfrighteous you are robbing God the attention of others.

Don't Except being called Biblically wise to the extent of being big headed when you know your wisdom comes from God because again you are robbing God the attention of others.

Wisdom is a Gift of God

1 Corinthians 2:7

No, we speak of God's secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.

Spiritual Wisdom is given to people to glorify Himself-(God), not that you will be glorified through God's wisdom given to you. The gift of wisdom is the application of knowledge that God gives you, for his glory! NOT OURS. When we become big headed in our wisdom we are robbing God! I believe God will halt your wisdom till you shrink less of yourself and Increase more of him. John 3:30 "He must become greater; I must become less."

Wisdom is speaking hidden truths of what is not known that is a God given gift that is vary easy to take for your own glory.

Matthew 7:6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

Matthew 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

Knowledge is the collection of information, "wisdom" is knowing how to use that knowledge and whom to share it with. Here are some verses to ponder:

Proverbs 17:27-28 He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. 28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

Proverbs 23:9 Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.

Proverbs 26:4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.

Proverbs 26:5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

Proverbs 26:12 Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

Proverbs 28:26 He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.

Proverbs 29:20 Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

Ecclesiastes 10:12 The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.

I think the danger is when we become righteous and wise in our own eyes. (Prov. 3:7) I think it boils down to pride.
