It is entirely possible to accept a literal Adam and Eve along with an earth and universe billions of years old.

One could also accept that the tooth fairy snorted the wrong powder and sneezed the universe out.

So how would that work? We have God forming a man from the ground, and then the same day putting him to sleep and taking a bone from him that He used to created a woman? But He did all this on a planet not created in the way He said? (example, the earth first before the stars and sun)

As you see, the Genesis story is presented to us as a figurative account, so that isn't a problem, any more than the fact that there are two contradictory "genealogies" for Jesus in the Bible.

Why not throw out the bible?

Because even if the Bible is often figurative, it's still God's Word.   And you should still respect it, even if you don't agree with Him on this.

That's no less weird than revising Genesis to be a literal history.   Once you start doing that, all sorts of stories are possible.

There is a difference between a figure of the true and figuring it is not true.

What is the purpose of this ridiculous comparison?

You follow this with a question, but when you start with something this antagonistic, it sure seems that you are not really interested in hearing an answer.

Once you pull anchor from Scripture, there is no limit to the delusional stories one could come up with.

Then there was the other part of the post you ignored..

Yes, and that is the YE creationist failure.   If a Bible verse is figurative, they figure it's false.   You should accept all of scripture, even the parts that may make you uncomfortable.   Once you pull anchor from Scripture, there is no limit to the delusional stories one could come up with.

I ignored it because I'm not convinced you really want to have a conversation about it. Why would I waste my time trying to explain when you show no sign of willingness to consider it?

The spirit is needed to tell us if something was some sort of fairy tale or mere figure. Your opinion on what is figurative conflicts with basic bible writing, such as creation. His spirit is not what is telling us it is not true or that 'did God reaaalllly say that' blah blah. Be careful.
