Jewish Temple

Okay, I hope nobody thinks this is a dumb question, but I have to ask.

First let me start off with, I am reading a book about the Jewish Temple. I thought it would help me understand more of the laws and explain better some of the terms and wording while reading the New Testament.

Now, I guess I never really thought what the Jewish people are up against if they do ever get to rebuild their Temple. The thing I keep wondering about is this, the High Priest has to been from the line of Aaron, correct? The Priest all have to be from the tribe of Levi, is this also correct?

I could be way off base with this, but do the Jewish people still know their linage??

I guess that sounds like I'm being offensive in some way but I'm not. Most American's couldn't tell you much past their Grandparents or Great Grandparents, the Jewish people have been persecuted and driven out from country after country. Are there still enough of them that can trace their roots back to Aaron or to the Levite line?

If yes, well that answers my question, although I find it remarkable after all of the terrible things they have been through, but with the importance placed on this it wouldn't surprise me. If no, what are they planning on doing if they are able to rebuild the Temple???

I have to assume since this is something so many Jewish people believe in and pray for, this has had to come up at some point?

About the Temple you are referring -- are you wanting information about the Ezekiel Temple? Or are you studying the Temple of Solomon and the 2nd Temple?

The book is The Temple Its Ministry and Services by Alfred Edersheim, it basically is talking about the 2nd temple, how it was set up, the courses of the Priest, sacrifices the different meanings and how they were done, the clothing they must wear.....pretty much everything.

It made me start wondering about the new Temple that many of the Jewish people are praying to be rebuild. The enormous obstacles they face, starting with getting a Mosque off of where it needs to be built.

They I started wondering about the priest. Maybe I'm just not asking my question understood very well.
