I found this interesting - United Methodist will split over LGBT decision. The saddest part of this article to me is that it paints a sad picture of the US portion of the denomination - the US churches are the more liberal leaning ones while those in other countries hold fast to traditional Biblical beliefs regarding same sex relations. Lord help us!

Hi, Have any supporting evidence of that  statement?

Read the article - I stated that was the part of the article I found the saddest, as it paints the picture that is the US Methodist churches leaning liberal and the rest of the world being traditional.

But the article provides no information to back it's presumptive statement. Least none that  I find in the article.  To write "It seems likely" is not fact, it is speculation. The article does not state what the authors speculations are based upon. "

It seems likely that the majority of the denomination’s churches in the United States would remain in the existing United Methodist Church, which would become a more liberal-leaning institution as conservative congregations worldwide depart.

The Methodist Church used to be one of the most respected denominations years ago when I was a kid but not anymore. They are very liberal.

I am reminded that God culls out the many weak  and uses an underwhelming number of the very strong to do mighty work in His name to His Glory alone . All so that the awesome result may only be attributable to His awesome sovereignty.

May the few within the UMC that hold to the Bible's word become a group empowered by God to do excellent service  in sharing the gospel of Jesus to an unsaved world.

Yes, I too am very much aware of the gay banners flying off the entry steps of UMC churches at New England. I am very much aware of my  own family clergy within the UMC. I do pray for the few that know God that will be leaving that  greater body now of little antichrists, to be lifted by God alone in a mighty effort led of the Holy Spirit.

I read a couple of articles on this prior to today, and what I read is that its the us congregations trying to force acceptance of homosexuality while mainly the overseas ones are resisting that.

Regardless of what side they fall on, its 2 branches of the same church. Isnt that still supporting homosexuality even if you attend the traditional branch?

One comment on one of the articles I read was kinda funny. They are splitting into the traditional methodist and the church of whats trending now.

It's a win/lose situation. The UMC takes a bit of damage, but at least now they can successfully (hopefully) seperate more of the wheat from the chaff.

That, and if the "progressive" churches are more obvious, they can be more easily avoided.
