I've been trying to research the etymology of the name God and most of the references I read were vague or can't give me a satisfactory explanation. I'm doubting calling God as God, because perhaps the name might belong to an ancient pagan idol. I also feel that the name God is sort of generic.

I stopped calling God as God for a whole year and start calling Him, Lord, Most High, or YHWH.

If so call Him "Daddy" or "Father" or "Abba" or "Oreu". or "Pe`re"........ ect.

I've always felt uncomfortable addressing the Lord directly as, "God". I suppose it's alright for some. He's very understanding. Lord is most often used. A lot of my prayers will begin with, "Dear Jesus". Father would be a more formal way for me and a third choice. He answers to many others when it's from the heart.

I agree, but it should be YHVH as there is no “W” in the Jewish language.

This is correct. No "W" is known in Hebrew dialect.

I wouldn't worry about it so much. You can open a prayer with, "Dear God". That's not disrespectful.

The off-the-cuff remark, "Oh my God." is rude, thoughtless, and profane.

No, not really. If the "G" were dropped to a lower case though, then it's problematic. Read the bible on that for references. Lower case "g" refers to those of an idolatrous type.

The translation for "Lord" is Elohim in Hebrew and Theos in Greek. The English translation is problematic and doubtful because there's no clear origin.

Anyway, I'm already used to calling Him, Lord Most High, dropping out the name "God" for good. :)

There is God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Which God are you referring to?

I hear you. I personally don't see it as an issue. But if it makes you feel uncomfortable, call him "Father" or "Lord" (of course, Lord can be used of people too, rightly or wrongly).

Don't worry about being all technical about it, Brandon. Well, unless you really want to be.
