I use a 1611 King James Version Bible, and while the spelling is different, this Bible is word for word the same as the Authorized Version most people use today.

No, there are major differences. The most notable is the Apocrypha.

the case with the New International Version that changed all references to God as "he" to God, so as not to offend feminists.

That's a myth :whistling:

You said the NIV was non-sexist. That's simply not true. What is true is a group used the NIV version and tainted it to be non-sexist. They could have done this with any translation, including the King James, but instead opted to use the NIV. It was published by Zondervan. In other words, you streched the truth to prove a point. You tried to say the NIV was in herently this way, when in fact a publishing company decided to do this years later based off the NIV.

Anyone who calls the KJV archaic, out of date, or downplays its significance in comparision to the modern translations...is either dishonest, deceived, ignorant, or just plain hasn't read it enough.

Read the KJV, with an open mind, for a month and truly believe that you will never go back.

God bless.

Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt. I constantly found myself having to go back to the NIV for reference on what was being said. I have very high IQ, I am very intelligent, but I do not enjoy reading the KJV-I constantly find myself trying to translate it in my mind to modern English and that's disruptive. So I might as well go ahead and get a modern translation!

BTW, who made you judge? I bolded the part above and I don't fit any of those categories. I'm not dishonest, I've answered the ignorant part, and I've read it all of my life. As far as deceived, you're not my judge and I would very much ask you to edit your post before I report it.

Sorry if I offended you. If I stated anything wrong I apologize. However, could you please elaborate as to exactly what offended you and why?

Am I not allowed to believe that the modern translations are corrupted? That is my contention and I stand by it. I use modern translations also...but only in ACCORDANCE WITH AND TO CLARIFY certain passages in the KJV. However, my KJV Bible is always the superior text...as it uses, what I believe to be, the faitfully preserved manuscripts of the Textus Receptus.

Please tell me why I am not allowed to believe this.

Thankyou and God bless.

Halifax,

I go to church with people who believe that the KJV is the best translation-I have no problem with that. It's when name calling such as "decevied," "ignorant," "dishonest," and "hasn't read it enough" starts in that I take issue.

Ronald, by the way, I am not saying that you are a heretic or hell-bound, I am not saying that I am your judge, or anything of the like. I believe that you are a Spirit-sealed, Spirit-led believer in Jesus Christ our Lord. However, when I see people who cling to modern versions as their CHIEF WORD OF GOD SUPPLY, I fully believe that this is wrong. Not because it is primarily your wrong-doing, but rather, because of the tactics of the enemy. The enemy wants us to read a watered-down, altered Word of God. The enemy has achieved this goal by way of modern translations. I believe this. I am not trying to knock you as a person... I am merely knocking the modern versions. There are some people that willingly read corrupted versions. There are some people that are decieved into doing so. There are some people that have never read the KJV. I am not grouping you into a generality here. I am suggesting that you are a partaker of one of these types. Namely, an honest believer who is tricked into reading a non-textus receptus based Word of God. Again, sorry if I offended you...but I am allowed to have my own opinions aren't I??? Trust me, there are MANY, MANY Christians who are KJV-only. BTW...the church that I attend reads from modern translations also. I love my pastor and my church. Do I agree with them on every point? No. But we are still a family and I love them. God bless.

Halifax,

I agree with you to a point. I have seen modern versions of the Bible that weren't worth the paper they were written on. I for one do not like a "dumbed down" version of the Bible that is written on a 1st grade level. I picked up one of those at a yard sale once and I personally get nothing from it. I also really get nothing from the NKJV-if I'm going to read it, I'll read the KJV instead. I mainly stick to 3 or 4 translations that I believe are correct-NIV, KJV, NLT, and when I post here, I quote from the NASB a lot. Past that, I'm really not into a new translation each month!

SUPER JEW, by the way, I am off tomorrow, am doing my homework, and will respond to your long and detailed and informative post tommorrow, perhaps noonish. Thankyou for you patience.

God bless.

p.s. SJ, still waiting for your response to the enoch and elijah post. For some reason I just love hearing what you think. I still feel far from a sound Biblical answer concerning that subject. Thankyou.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
